  Ronald "Ron" Friebel, age 88, of Combined Locks, passed away on December 18, 2016 at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born to the late Edward and Minnie (Sanderfoot) Friebel on May 10, 1928. He was a graduate of Kimberly High School. On August 25, 1949 he was united in marriage to Virginia M. Sprangers at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy. In 2014 the couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Ronald was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #265 in Darboy. He owned and operated a service station for 15 years in Appleton, and then was employed at Stumpf Ford where he retired in January of 1985. Between owning the gas station and working at Stumpf Ford, Ron and his family moved to Florida to escape the cold and moved back to the Valley in 1970. He was a longstanding member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Knights. Ron also enjoyed deer hunting where he was always chief cook. Ronald is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia; his sons: Daniel (Mary) of Kaukauna and Steven (Karen) of Matlacha, Florida; his seven grandchildren: Cathy (Ishmael) LeBron, Brad (Amy) Friebel, Andy (Jamie) Friebel, Jackie (Mike) Williams, Rob (Jen) Friebel, Kay (Ryan) Myer, and Tami Johnson; 12 great grandchildren; a brother Vernon (Rosie) Friebel of Kimberly; and many brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Marvin Friebel; and a sister-in-law Lee Friebel. A memorial for Ron will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2016 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full military honors will take place following the service.
