- John J. Hanges, Appleton, 80, passed away at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, Olson Hall, fifth floor, in King, Wis. on Sept. 2, 2007. He was born Aug. 5, 1927, the son of the late Gustave and Mary (Nemecheck) Hanges. On Aug. 5, 1948, he married Geneva Hopfensperger in Darboy. John dedicated his life to serving his country for 23 years in the Army, Air Force and National Guard. He was a decorated 1st Class Sergeant of the Vietnam War and a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Upon his retirement, John worked for Presto Products. He was an avid bowler and fisherman.
John is survived by his wife, Geneva; children, Linda (Dale) Spoehr, Colorado; Jonathan (Christine) Hanges, Appleton; Keith (Mary) Hanges, Appleton; and Tina (Gary) Ferro, California; grandchildren, Rebbeca, Joseph, Michael, Joshua, Jessica, Jared, Adam, Courtney and Emily and great-grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick, Shjon, Domannik and Kalaeb.
John is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Hanges.
The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME TRI COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida Street, Appleton. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment services will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
