- Clement "Clem" Joseph Derenne, 87, Bellevue, passed away on March 31, 2011, with his wife, Teresa, at his side. He was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1923, in Duvall, Wis., to Joseph and Mary (Dantoin) Derenne. Clem was a hardworking and loving father, a devout Catholic and he lived his life with integrity.
Clem graduated from Duvall Grade School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1943. He was a dashing young man of 24 when he married the love of his life, Teresa Van Den Berg, on Aug. 20, 1947, at Holy Rosary Parish in Kewaunee. Clem and Teresa farmed for 50 years in Kewaunee and the Town of New Denmark. Clem was also a cattle dealer. They retired from farming in 1986, and in 2001, they sold the farm and moved to Bellevue.
He was a longtime member of and active parishioner at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Pine Grove (now Prince of Peace) and member of the Holy Name Society. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Platta Council 4735, since 1959.
He enjoyed bowling for many years at Golden Bowl and with the Susters Old Timers. After retirement, he golfed at Wander Springs and enjoyed playing cards at Lily Lake and the Denmark Senior Center. Clem was a member of the Concerned Hearts Club, Northeastern Region, following his heart valve replacement in 1994. Clem enjoyed traveling, deer hunting when he was younger, and was an avid Packer fan. He always had a passion for playing cards, especially sheepshead and cuyoo with his brothers, sisters and other family members. He was very proud of all his children and grandchildren.
Clem is survived by his wife of 63 years, Teresa; seven children and 17 grandchildren, including four sons, Dave (Cindy) Derenne and their children, Dr. Jennifer Derenne, Brian (Karina) Derenne and Jon Derenne; Dan (Nancy) Derenne and their twins, Robyn and Adam; Steve (Barb) Derenne and their children, Kristy Seidler and Matthew (Misty) Derenne; Ron (Tina) Derenne and their children, Joe (Amanda) Derenne and Derek Derenne; three daughters, Mary Cavanaugh and her children, Todd (Theresa) Cavanaugh, Paula (Jim) Zdziarski, Brad Cavanaugh and Brenda (Erik) Gilbertson; Janice (Mike) Mansfield and their children, Lana Murphy and special friend, Mike Christenson, Sgt. Zachary (Kelly) Murphy; Terri (Tom) Hauterbrook and their children, Paul and Katie; his sister, Dorothy Mancheski; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Derenne, Helen (Robert) DeGrave, Rose Duescher, Rita Van Den Berg, Angela Paul, Mercedes Van Den Berg; brothers-in-law, Dennis Van Den Berg, Jim (Pat) Van Den Berg, and Jerry Van Den Berg; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren; godchildren, Dale Derenne, Harry Duescher, Dolores Jeanquart, Paul DeGrave, Marie Chase; and many other nieces and nephews.
Clem was preceded in death by a son, Chuck, in 1970; grandchildren, Craig and Amy; as well as brothers, Goldie (Ethel), Norris (Arvella), Walter, Joseph (Anna); sisters, Irene (John) Holsbach, Jenny (Raymond) Baudiun, Josie (Arnold) Prevost; brothers-in-law, Gene Mancheski, Loren Van Den Berg, Richard Duescher, Lloyd Paul and Allan (Betty) Van Den Berg.
Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Parish wake service 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Knights of Columbus, Father Platta Council 4735 memorial service 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3524 Willow Rd., with the Rev. Ron Belitz and Rev. Ralph Merkatoris concelebrating.
