- Margaret A. Vander Velden, Little Chute, age 77, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Kaukauna on April 12, 1931, to the late Theodore and Catherine (Vanden Heuvel) Vandenberg. Margaret married Marvin J. Vander Velden on September 30, 1950, at Holy Cross Parish.
She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute. Margaret was a past president and currently serving as secretary of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Auxiliary. She loved playing cards with her card club friends, trips to Las Vegas and reading. She was an accomplished cook and baker as well as a huge Cubs fan. In her younger years, she also enjoyed fishing, golfing and spending time at their trailer in Green Bay. Margaret cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren and attended every sporting and school event she was able to. She was a very special person who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marvin; five children: Dave (Joann), Kaukauna; Sue (Jeff) Maes, Kaukauna; Karen (Joseph) Portman, Little Chute; Jim (Barb), Kaukauna; and Jeff (Dana), Harrison; daughter-in-law, Mary Stewart; 15 grandchildren: Heather, Tandi, Lan, Val, Nick, Ryan, Travis, Amanda, Miranda, Megan, Michelle, Leah, Tracey, Katie and Tanner; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Bob) Weyenberg; sisters and brothers-in-law: Renata Vandenberg, Dennis (Gail) Vander Velden, Dean Walker and Joyce (Al) Dieda. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Michael and infant son, Paul; father- and mother-in-law, George and Agnes Vander Velden; and many brothers, sisters and in-laws.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2009, until the time of Mass at 5 p.m. at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH (323 S. Pine St., Little Chute). The Rev. James Hablewitz will officiate. Committal St. John Cemetery.
