- Arthur Van Handel, 86, Town of Vandenbroek, died at his home Monday, December 28, 2009, with his family by his side. He was born July 7, 1923, in the Town of Vandenbroek, son of Fred and Anna (Schumacher) Van Handel. He married Bernice Vande Hey June 14, 1949, in Wrightstown, and she preceded him in death August 3, 2000. Arthur farmed on the family farm and enjoyed building homes. In his younger years, he volunteered a lot of his time with the Town of Vandenbroek Fire Department. Arthur loved listening to music, singing, dancing and playing sheephead. Arthur was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute.
Arthur is survived by his children: Diane (Gary) Feller, Appleton; Lloyd (special friend, Marcie Van Dyn Hoven) Van Handel, Freedom; Ruby (Paul) Van Groll, Appleton; Greg (Jean) Van Handel, Appleton; Nancy (Mike) Foshee, New Holstein; Lisa (Jerry) Wildenberg, Freedom; Amy (John) Wudtke, Bonduel; grandchildren: Heather (Seth) Ponschock, Albert (Amanda) Van Eyck, Corey (Amanda) Feller, Kelly (Ryan) Petersen, Amber (Adam) Gonnering, Brent (Jessie) Van Handel, Tyler Van Handel, Scott (Casey), Jessie, Chris (Maria), Jody, Maggie and Mollie Van Groll, Tammie (Clay) Veldt, Jamie (Shaena), Craig (Leah), Nick (fiancee Megan Gonnering), Charlie and Sara Van Handel, Megan, Aaron and Jill Foshee, Ryan, Rachael, Emily and Zachary Wildenberg, Becky and Janel Wudtke; 17 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; brothers: Bill (Lorna) Van Handel, Darboy; Richard (Grace) Van Handel, Kaukauna; Ervin (Ruth) Van Handel, Glendale; sisters: Ursula (Clarence) Vanden Heuvel, Little Chute; Audrey Van Camp, De Pere; Agnes Smudde, Freedom; brothers-in-law: Orville Vande Hey, De Pere; Gerald "Butch" Vande Hey, Denmark; Virgil (Sandy) Vande Hey, Wrightstown; sisters-in-law: Mary Sprangers, Freedom; Rita Vande Hey, Bev Vande Hey, both of Wrightstown.
Arthur was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Becky Jo Wildenberg; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Catherine Van Groll; a brother, Matt (Marian) (Janet) Van Handel; sisters: Catherine (Urban Micke) (Jerome) Van Lanen, Irene (George) Stoffel, Marie (Rueben Van Lanen) (Butch) Dombrowski; brothers-in-law: Fabian Van Camp, Al Smudde, Roland Vande Hey, Mike (Murilla) Vande Hey, Clayton (Loretta) Vande Hey, Howard (Johanna) Vande Hey, Gordan (Margaret) Vande Hey, Mark (Florence) Vande Hey, Gene, Lloyd and Ralph Vande Hey, Hilary Vande Hey, Leonard Sprangers; sisters-in-law: Bonnie Van Handel, Marlene (Lawrence Sprangers) (Leroy) Greisbach, Vivian (Ray) Eiseman, Janet Vande Hey, Pat Vande Hey, Jean Vande Hey.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with Fr. James Hablewitz officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the mass.
