- Denis Joseph Uitenbroek, Darboy, age 82, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at his home. He was born in Darboy, WI, on June 26, 1927, to Joseph and Mary (Sprangers) Uitenbroek. Denis married Irene Marx on May 8, 1951, at St. John the Baptist Church in St. John, WI. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Adak, Aleutian Islands. He was a carpenter by trade and a partner of Darbroek Realty, Inc.
He was a member of Holy Angels Parish, Darboy (now Holy Spirit Parish), and served as sexton of the parish cemetery for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; and his 11 children: Val (Carol), Steven (Judy), Kenneth (Cindy), Richard (Donna), Mary (Tim) Joosten, Leo (Jane), Sheila (Roger) Hopfensperger, Bryan (Sue), Brenda (Steve) Hardy, Douglas (Dawn) and Denise (Dan) Evers; 37 grandchildren: Sarah (Scott) Effa, Matt, Nick, Travis, Rose, Jon and Hannah Uitenbroek, Ben (Heidi), Eric (Kristy), Isaac (Monica) and Andy (Tabitha) Uitenbroek, Adam (Jessica) Uitenbroek, Brendan, Andrea (Steve) Opsteen, Tyler (Marie), Connor and Melaina Uitenbroek, Alison (fiance Aaron Behnke), Jared and Katelyn Joosten, Leanne, Craig and Kelli Uitenbroek, Jacob, Tony, Peter and Maria Hopfensperger, Amber and Kyle Uitenbroek, Kristine, Bonnie and Mike Hardy, Dana and Morgan Vanden Boogart, David, Dustin and Devin Evers; seven great-grandchildren: Madelyn and Lydia Effa, Benjamin Uitenbroek, Casey, Brody and Baby Uitenbroek and Gracie Uitenbroek.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Jerome (Lynn), Clifford (Joann), Joseph (Eleanor), Paul (Donna), Ruth Uitenbroek, Lorraine Uitenbroek, Janice Uitenbroek, Janice Marx and Carol Marx; stepsister and stepbrothers; Doris (Harold) Seymour, Donald (Valerie) Wolff and Norman (Arlene) Wolff.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Claude, Donald, Mark; stepfather, Arthur Wolff; father- and mother-in-law, Jake and Rose Marx; brothers-in-law: Arthur and Roman Marx.
The funeral liturgy for Denis will be held at 11 a.m. at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH - DARBOY, WI, W5831 Hwy. KK, DARBOY on Monday, January 4, 2010, with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 3, at Jansen Fargo Funeral Home from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Angels Cemetery, Darboy.
A special Thank You to the Affinity Visiting Nurses, Hospice Nurses and Dr. Scott for their outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
