- See image Patrick Powers, aged 92, the last surviving member of the pioneers of th is neighborhood, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mike Fox, at Askea ton last Friday evening at 8 o'clock of diseases incident to old age. M r. Powers was born in County Clare, Ireland in 1828 and came with his pare nts, Mr. & Mrs Martin Powers, to this country, settling in the east and la ter in the Town of Buchanan where Patrick Powers lived the greater pa rt of his life. His wife died several years ago and he is survived by a da ughter, Mrs Mike Fox of Askeaton, two sons, John of Kenosha and Richa rd of Askeaton. The funeral services were held Monday May 3 at St. Franc is Church, the Rev. Louis Van Oeffel celebrating requim high mass. The int erment was made in the Powers family lot in the parish cemetery. The pallb earers were : William Campbell, Dan Glasheen, William Glasheen, Patrick Ro han, John. D. Cox and Thomas Clune.
Kaukauna Times dated May 6, 1920 (second Article) LAST OF THE PIONEER SIn the death last Friday of Patrick Powers passed away the last of the stu rdy band of pioneers of this neighborhood who came to Wisconsin befo re it became a state and so largely made the state what it has become. M r. Powers, who was born in 1828 and settled in Buchanan in 1848 was not ed for his powerful physique and was one of the most picturesque characte rs of Outagamie County, admired as much for his native wit and personali ty as for his remarkable physical strength. He married Katherine Finne ll in 1859, who proceeded him in death a few years ago and besides his thr ee children, is survived by 19 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren.
