- Rita Adeline Hoffman, age 84, of Appleton, died Sunday December 23, 2012, peacefully at Carolina Manor of natural causes surrounded by members of her loving family. She was born Rita Adeline Schumacher in the Town of Grand Chute on July 17, 1928 to John and Hattie (Williamsen) Schumacher. Rita attended St. John Catholic School in Little Chute, graduating in 1946. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton.
A lifelong resident of Outagamie County, Rita's primary profession was a homemaker. On November 26, 1953, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Hoffman, with whom she would share 56 years before his death in 2010.
She is survived by her three sons Paul (Merry) Hoffman and their four children of Fort Worth, Texas, David (Carla) Hoffman and their two sons of Appleton, and Mark Hoffman and his two sons and stepson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; five brothers, Maurice (Florus) Schumacher, Eugene (Eleanor) Schumacher, Marvin (Leona) Schumacher, John (Katherine) Schumacher, and James (Donna) Schumacher; in-laws, Marion Schumacher, Germaine Schumacher, Dorothy Hoffman, Dorothy Van Gheem-Hoffman; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; five brothers Peter, Raymond, Clarence, Harold, and Joseph, and her sister Millie (Huss); in-laws Betty Schumacher, Mary Schumacher, Tess Schumacher, Robert Huss, Marcella Hoffman, John and Alice Hoffman, Urban Hoffman, Dorothy and Charles Weber, Raymond Hoffman, Rosemary Hoffman, Rita Hoffman, and Elmer and Florence Hoffman; step-grandson Michael George; three nephews John Schumacher, Steve Schumacher, Earl Hoffman; and a grand-nephew and a grand-niece.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Friday, December 28, 2012, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 213 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Appleton, with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be at Valley Funeral Home tonight, Thursday, December 27, 2012, from 4 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, and at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the Mass. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, Mass intentions for Rita or Rita & Ken would be appreciated, or donations may be made to Appleton's St. Therese Parish in their memory
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Carolina Manor for their ongoing care of our Mother during her stay there and to Heartland Hospice for their care during Mom's final days.
