- The world has lost a gentle soul, proud veteran, loving and patient father, husband and grandfather. Martin J. "Marty" Kemps, 92, of Kenosha passed away Tuesday, October 24th, 2006, at the home of his daughter, Patricia, in Cambridge, WI. Born February 28, 1914, in Uden, Holland, he was the son of the late Willem and Hendrica (Van der Wijst) Kemps. He attended St. Norbert High School in DePere, WI. On March 1, 1945, he married Nora Mae Hobbins who preceded him in death on August 12, 2002. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters. He served in the United States Army during World War II, entering on May 16, 1941. On September 7, 1945, he was honorably discharged. He was a cryptographic technician serving in China in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the Flying Tigers. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal with Four Overseas Service Bars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He worked at The Kenosha News for 29 years as a linotype operator. Surviving are his three children, Patricia Hobbins-Kemps of Cambridge, WI, Martia (Douglas Vaccarello) Kemps, of Kenosha, and Mary (Michael) MacDonald of Franklin; a sister, Harriet Conrad of Freedom, WI; ten grandchildren, Theresa (John) Lukhard, Laura (Shawn Guse) Dunek, Tracie Dunek-Kieckhefer, Jessica (Steven Thompson) Dunek, Julie, Jason and Catherine Capodarco, and Erin, Anne and Claire MacDonald; nine great grandchildren, Alison and Natalie Guse, Mindy, Thomas, Anthony, Jay and Katie Welch, and Joseph and Autumn Jacobi. He is also leaves behind nieces, nephews and extended family in Uden, Holland. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30th, at St. Robert's Catholic Church in Union Grove at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.
