- Germaine (Romenesko-Schmalz) St. Arnold, Kaukauna, age 89, passed away peacefully at St. Paul Elder Services, Kaukauna, on November 4, 2013. She was born on March 29, 1924 in Kaukauna, daughter of the late Walter H. and Eva (Schmalz) Romenesko and later adopted by Arthur and Susan Schmalz.
Gerry graduated from Holy Cross Grade School and Kaukauna High School, and then attended Milwaukee Downer College. She also attended Fox Valley Technical College and proceeded to become a ward clerk at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
She married the love of her life, Edward St. Arnold, in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1970. She went on to marry Kenneth Reinholz in 1983.
Gerry was known in her earlier years for her volunteer work with the Kaukauna Schools and the Girl Scouts. She loved going dancing with her husband and spending time with those around her. Gerry was the co-founder of the Fox Valley Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. She also enjoyed spending time at her cabin up north, gardening, and baking. Gerry especially loved spending time with her family by taking them out for a family meal.
She is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Les) Ruen and Jean St. Arnold; a son-in-law, Vern (Joyce) Josie. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Shelley (Mark) Zierler, Scott Ruen, Patty (Matt) Fuerst, Ryan (Jean) Josie, Angela (Mark) Lederer, Corey Josie, Erin (Josh) Youngblood, and Mason Josie. She was an extra special Nana to Monica (special friend Jeremy), Courtney, Jacob, Damon, Christian, Ashlyn, Wyatt, Paige, Clare and Reece. She is also survived by two sisters: Marie (Dick) Powers and Francis Hutton; two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Heintz and Lou St. Arnold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Josie; five brothers: Lloyd "Squeeze" (Mildred), Leon "Butch" (Margaret), Orrin (Mildred), Monroe "Fat" (Lenore), and Mark "Spark" (Mildred); her sister, Martha (Robert) Jacobs; and brother-in-law, Bernie Hutton.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Gerry will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Family and friends will be received on Saturday directly at church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to go to St. Paul Elder Services or a charity of your choice .
