- Marie Simon, 85, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at the Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Kaukauna on Aug. 10, 1922, daughter of the late Edwin and Rose (Hartmanstorfer) Walker. On June 1, 1948, Marie married Joseph Simon. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1999. Marie received her nurses training at Milwaukee County Hospital's nursing school and worked as a registered nursed for more than 50 years. She was specially certified in Occupational Health. She retired as a health services nurse at Kimberly-Clark. She was a member of the Kaukauna Homemakers Club, St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville and the South Greenville Grange. Many will remember that Marie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always took a keen interest in the music and sporting events that her children and grandchildren took part in. She also volunteered as a 4-H leader and at the Hortonville Food Pantry.
She is survived by six children, Greg (Dianna) Simon, Marshfield; Kathleen "Katie" Simon, Milwaukee; Mary Jo (James) Zanton, Avalon; Jerald (Denise) Simon, Ogden, Utah; Daniel (Lori) Simon, Hustisford; and Adele Simon, Woodbury, Minn.; her grandchildren are the Rev. Victoria Simon, Nicole (Jason) Lenz, Christine Simon, Geoffrey (Sara) Zanton, Jennifer (Michael) Mood, Patricia Zanton, Marie Zanton, Elizabeth Zanton, Thomas Zanton, Stephen Zanton, Jerald (Suzanne) Simon, Joshua (Shelece) Simon, Anthony (Elicia) Simon, Joseph Simon and his fiancee, Kalee Thiel, Thomas Simon, Rebecca Simon, Chelsea Simon, and Casey Simon; four great-grandchildren, Kalysta and Jaren Simon, Summer Simon and Marianna Zanton; two sisters, Frances Schaefer, Kaukauna; and LaVerne (Jerome) Van Vreede, Freedom; sisters-in-law, Helen Walker, Kaukauna; Irene Simon, Grafton; Marion Simon, Kaukauna; Johanna Simon, Little Chute; and Theresa (Ivol) Vandenheuvel, Little Chute; and a brother-in-law, Anthony Simon, Neenah.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; her husband's parents, Anton and Sophia Simon; brothers, Robert (Imelda) Walker and Edwin Walker; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Raymond) Woehrer, Marie (Baldwin) Burhop, Dorothy Simon, and Elsie (Clarence) Simon; and brothers-in-law, George Simon, Arthur Simon, Lawrence Simon, Sylvester (Gladys) Simon, Herman Simon, and Vincent (Mary Louise) Simon.
The funeral liturgy for Marie will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, N2385 Municipal Drive, Greenville, with Fr. Justin Werner officiating. Interment will be in Kaukauna's St. Mary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. There will be a prayer and scripture service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
