- August Franzke, 75, one of the pioneer citizens of this locality, died at 6 o'clock Saturday evening at his home at 111 W. Wisconsln-ave. His health had been failing for the last two years. Funeral services are to be held at 1 o' clock Wednesday afternoon from the home and at 1:45 at Emmanuel Evangelist church. The Rev. H. A. Bernhardt will be in charge and will be assisted by the Rev. C. F. Rabehl, presiding elder of Appleton district, who is to speak in English, and the Rev. H. H. Brockhaus, who will speak in German. Mr Franzke was born Oct. 2, 1849 in Breslau, Germany, and came to the United States with his parents in 1862. The family settled in Calumet-co about a year later and Mr. Franzke lived there until about 14 years ago, when he moved his family to Appleton. He was married in 1874 to Minnie Otto at Reedsville. She preceded him in death June 6. 1920. A son, Attorney John Franzke died a year ago at Marinette. The decedent came to Calumet-co when the country was still heavily wooded and provided himself a home by clearing his own land. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. G. Stanelle, Forest Junction; one brother, John, California; also ten children, sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The children are; The Rev. Herman A. Franzke, Forest Junction; Mrs. J. P. Doran, Horicon; Mrs. R. P. Christoph, Milwaukee; Arthur A. Franzke, Lewistown, Mont; Mrs. Benjamin Greb, Appleton; Joseph J. Franzke, Forest Junction; Mrs. Forrest Jabas. Appleton; Mrs. Alvin C. Rabehl, Beaver Dam; Prof. A. L. Franzke. Appleton; Miss Elsie Franzke, Appleton.
