- Janssen, Roman G. "Rom y"Roman G. "Romy" Janssen, 80, of Little Chute, died Thursday, July 20, 200 6, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Roman was born August 8, 1925, to the late P eter and Martha (Ebben) Janssen. He served his country in the U.S. Navy du ring World War II and was a member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Po st 258, Little Chute. Roman married the love of his life, Bernice Manc l, on July 9, 1949, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. Romy work ed for Wisconsin Wire Works, and later for Albany Int. where he retir ed in 1985. He did not, however, retire from life.Roman loved his Lord and attended daily Mass. He was a lifelong, active me mber of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, where he shared his time a nd talents as an usher, mass server, a member of the Parish Finance Commit tee, Mission Club and Holy Name Society. Roman was also active in "Food f or the Poor." Roman was truly a family man who reveled in the simple lif e. He will be remembered for his love of reading, "going crazy" on Sunday s, rooting for Matt Kenseth, the Green Bay Packers, or any team his childr en or grandchildren were playing for, which could also mean piano, cho ir or band. He enjoyed much time outdoors, including picnic lunches, our c herry picking excursions, and finding and picking the best blackberries.Roman is survived by his devoted wife, Bernice; seven sons: Greg (Nancy ), Gerry (Joni), Mike (Alice), Jim (Nancy), Marty (Harriette), all of Litt le Chute; Bill of Freedom; and Doug (Deb) of Tigerton; five daughters: Ma ry (Dave) Vande Hey, Peg (Al) Van Asten, Kris (Bruce) Evers, Ellen (Stev e) Reynebeau, all of Little Chute; and Laurie (Pat) Verhagen of Combined L ocks; 47 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Marianne Sc hnabl, Sylvia (Ted) Kuether and Rosemary West; six brothers: Don, Gerrit ( Marge), Kenneth (Carol), Peter, Paul (Audrey) and Joseph (Jane); and siste rs and brothers-in-law: Janet Janssen, Sue Wilson, Germaine Doerfler, Don na Mancl, Earline Mancl and Vincent (Pat) Baum. He is further surviv ed by other relatives, "Special Neighbors" and friends.In addition to his parents, Roman was preceded in death by his father a nd mother-in-law, August and Frances Mancl; a son-in-law, Walt Audett e; a granddaughter, Rebecca Janssen; brothers, Lester and Orville; brothe rs and sisters-in-law: Marlene Janssen, Larry Schnabl, Dave West, Agnes Ja nssen, Bernice Janssen, Doris Janssen, Robert Mancl, Jack Mancl, Beulah Ba um, Joan and Chet Meiers, Mable and Elmer Wilson, Mary Louise and Vince nt Simon, and Henry Doerfler.The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2006, at. St. John Nep omucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. The Rev. James Hablewitz will offic iate. The Jacob Coppus American Legion Post 258, Little Chute will condu ct Military Rites immediately following Mass. Friends may call after 2 p. m. Monday until the time of Mass directly at church. Committal St. John Ce metery, Little Chute. A memorial has been established.The Janssen family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the d octors and staff of St. Elizabeth Hospital, who treated us like famil y. We would also like to thank Fr. Patrick Beno for his visits and the 6: 45 a.m. Mass Group for their prayers and concern.God made us a family.
