- Thomas James Joseph Pennings, Sr., age 57, of N1775 Schoenborn Rd. in Chil ton, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at his home in Chilton followi ng a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 5, 1948, in Appleto n, WI, son of Lucille "Toots" (Marquardt) Pennings and the late James Penn ings. Tom graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1967 and worked at Tecums eh Engines in New Holstein for 36 years. He married Gail (Larson) Scheig er on June 26, 1993 in Chilton.
He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and served in the Unit ed States Army during Vietnam where he flew in over 200 missions and earn ed many air and soldier medals including and the Distinguished Flying Cro ss for heroism while participating in aerial flight to deliver badly need ed ammunition to another unit.
Tom was very artistic and shared his talents through many murals and caric atures. He also enjoyed bowling, going up north, spending time outside, wo odworking, telling jokes, and spending time with his family; especially h is grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Gail; his mother, Lucille; four children: T om Jr. (Deb) Pennings of Appleton; Tammy (Rob) Wolf of Stockbridge; Dale P ennings of New Holstein; Kristie (Mike) Hostettler of Chilton; four grandc hildren: Bradley and Benjamin Pennings, Michael Jr. and Maria Hostettle r; and four siblings: Donna Rae (Pat) DeBroux of Grand Chute; Richard Penn ings of Lily, WI; Ben (Kay) Pennings of Little Chute; and Anne (Mike) Jun io of Kaukauna. Tom is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relativ es and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Pennings; a brother, Jay Penni ngs, and a sister, Rebecca Pennings.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Go od Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton with the Rev. Greg Smith officiatin g. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieti ng Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4-8 p.m. on Frida y, January 20, 2006 and on Saturday at Church from 10-10:45 a.m. when serv ices will be held. A parish vigil service will be held Friday evening at t he funeral home at 7:30 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in the n ame of Thomas J. Pennings.
