Letter written by Friend Asahel Phillips 1833-1917 to his brother, Delos Phillips and wife Margaret. It is written the same year that Delos and Margaret came to Wisconsin.
July 3rd, 1853
Respected Brother and Sister,
I will now take my pen in hand to inform you that we are all well at present. We got your letter yesterday and was glad to hear that you are the same.
I got a letter from you June 2nd but I did not write until now. I thought I would wait until your mare foaled she has got a horse colt, very nice.
Ira and I had a great time reading about your fish, frogs,snakes, deer & so & so.
Now I will tell you what we have got as good corn as you have. Now I will tell you about Mrs. G Casterline, she died May 26th. Miss crandal is with the children. Davis was married May 22nd. Sylvia was married May 23rd. She is here. Sally Flint was married June 5th to Sim Brown. Ed Crowell was married last winter. I am a batch. I shall not come there this fall father and I have bought Giles farm and he is on his way there, I suppose. Father says he will sell and come there first chance.
Mrs. Casterline says her best regards and respects.
I shall go to Belmont tomorrow if I have good luck to a celebration.
I want to see you all. Tell Jake and Janette and all the rest that I want to see them to and I trust I shall yet.

She wants you to kiss all the children for her. She wants to see them dreadfully, as well as the rest of us. When I think where you are it seems a though I could fly. If I could see you as soon time would let me.
Respected children all as wone. I want to see you all. So you tell us good news about your country.
I am very glad you are well suited with your situation.
We do not know as we shall sell, sometimes we think of selling and move out but how it will be I can't tell you. Tell about fish. I wish you send names from line Cr.- first tomorrow morning. We have a very hot summer here this summer.
We should like to know how much it cost you to move out.
