- Harold L. Ashton, "Shorty," Kaukauna, age 83, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Harold was born July 2, 1923, the son of the late John and Ethel (Frey) Ashton. On October 11, 1947, he married the former Joyce Hopfensperger at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton; Joyce preceded him in death in 1992.
Harold is survived by ten children: Diane (James) Tiesling, Appleton; Donna (Jerry) Mikkelson, of Miami, Florida; Darlene (David) Ver Voort, Appleton; Dennis (Barbara) Ashton, of Appleton; Dorry Holloway, Milton, Florida; Dawn (John) Padgett, Homestead, Florida; Dina (Joe) Mikkelson, Appleton; Dickie (Harold) Meyer, Ellsworth; Daniel (Patti) Ashton, Appleton; and Denise (Lester) Lesselyoung, Appleton. There are fourteen grandchildren: Brian (Jennifer) Tiesling, Brenda Tiesling, Tammy Ver Voort, David (Jolie) Ver Voort, Jr., Marcia Ashton, Gregory Ashton, Carrie Holloway, Nathan (Erika) Holloway, Lisa (Josh) Eldredge, Ashley Mikkelson, Melissa (Adam) Linder, Crystal Meyer, Scott Meyer, Christopher Lesselyoung, Lainee Lesselyoung; and six great-grandchildren.
Harold also leaves behind two brothers-in-law: Eugene (Margie) Hopfensperger and Donald Worden; and a sister-in-law: Lorraine Nabbefeld.
The funeral service will be held at Noon on Saturday at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Walt Steinbach of Bethany Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
