  Carl J. Fiscus, age 79, of Appleton, died at his home on Sunday, October 19, 2008. He was born January 4, 1929, in Madison, WI, the youngest of 7 children born to Henry and Margaret (Anderson) Fiscus. At an early age, Carl exhibited his abilities in sports and music. He was an excellent golfer, tennis, pool and ping-pong player, and could play the harmonica and guitar by ear, never having had formal music lessons. He enjoyed entertaining at nursing homes and for family and friends. He knew many old country-western ballads and sang them with a fine baritone voice. He loved his family and did much for and with them. His varied life also included 4 years in the Air Force stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict, and 26 years with the Madison Fire Department. Carl will be missed by Marianne, his wife of 26 years, to whom he was unfailingly devoted during her struggle with Parkinson's disease, his three children and a stepdaughter, Annette Farrell-Vaughan, Karen Hughes, Thomas Fiscus and Leslie Jackson. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Regina Fiscus, and 10 grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Friday, October 24th from 2 - 3:30 p.m. A service celebrating Carl's life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday with Rev. David Vande Hey officiating. Interment has taken place at Highland Memorial Park with full Military Honors. Rather than flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or Theda Care at Home Hospice, in Carl's name.
