- Violet Arndt, age 84, of E5770 Long Lake Road, Marion, Town of Dupont, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at Greentree Health Care Center, Clintonville, following a short illness. The former Violet Smietanski was born November 17, 1922, in Calumet City, IL., and was the daughter the late Walter J. and Filomena (Kasperek) Smietanski. Violet was united in marriage to Raymond M. Arndt on December 25, 1941, at Ripon, WI. Ray and Violet celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Christmas of 2006. The couple farmed in the Town of Dupont since 1946, with Ray retiring in 1980. Violet was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Marion, and a member of St. John WELCA, and was a member of 4-H, and was a leader for 10 years. She was a former member of the Maple Valley Homemakers, and enjoyed reading, collecting dolls and recipes, growing flowers and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Ray; grandson, Clayton (Jolene) Arndt, Gresham, and great-granddaughter, Makena Arndt, and daughter-in-law, Linda Arndt, Gresham; a brother, Raymond (Evelyn) Smietanski, Loves Park, IL; two brothers-in-law: John (Edna) Arndt, and Donald (Judy) Arndt, both of Marion; also nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Violet was preceded in death by three sons: Milton, David, and Gene, two brothers: Carl and Leo Smietanski, and two sisters: Louise Witkowski, and Helen Burek.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 16, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Marion. Rev. Susan Sheffer-Meyer and Rev. Tom Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Trinity-St. John Cemetery, Town of Dupont. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Marion, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
