Biography:
HERMAN BLEICK, who for more than a quarter of a century has been engaged in agricultural pursuits in Outagamie county, is the owner of a fine farm in Greenville township, and a member of one of this section's oldest and most honored families. He was born August 26, 1860, in Greenville township, and is a son of John and Louisa (Brockman) Bleick, natives of Germany, where the former was born December 24, 1835, and the latter January 26, 1826. John Bleick was about fourteen years of age when he came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Bleick, and the other children, Ludwig and Dorothy. The family in the old country had been in rather humble circumstances, Frederick Bleick being a laboring man, but he eventually sold his property to furnish means for transportation to the New World, and in 1849 the little band of emigrants started out to cross the ocean. The trip was made from Hamburg to Quebec, and thence also by boat to Milwaukee, and was filled with many perils and hardships, but the sturdy little party kept straight on, and after locating in Milwaukee worked for a year at whatever any or all of the members of the party could find to do. At this time the Green Bay region was being opened up by homeseekers, and thence Frederick Bleick took his family, making the trip by ox team to Outagamie county, and hauling their household effects with them. Settling in section 10, after a journey that taxed even the strength of these hardy Germans, on land that had been pre-empted some time before by the sons, John and Ludwig, the family found the chance it had been looking for, and the parents here had a home during the remainder of their lives. John Bleick had received a German education in his native country, but had not had the advantages of an English education, and in fact never attended an English school in his life. On coming to this country he had begun life under somewhat of a handicap, it having been necessary to go into debt for most of the farm purchase money, but he was young and strong, the latter fact being emphasized by his feat of carrying fifty pounds of flour to his home from the village of Little Chute. In addition, he split rails at thirty cents per hundred, chopped wood at thirty cents per cord, and did any honest labor that came his way. The first Bleick home was a little log shanty, roofed with split basswood, and in this the family lived while the father and boys were clearing the farm from the forest, there having been no clearing of any kind when they first located there. Wild animals were still to be found in numbers, and a huge black bear full of fight, gave John Bleick a bad quarter of an hour on one occasion when he was returning from Appleton. In 1855, John Bleick was married at Greenville, to Louisa Brockman, also a native of Germany, and they located on a farm in Greenville township, on which he spent the remainder of his life. The first eighty acres of land which he owned were mostly of swamp, but at the time of his death he was the owner of 227 acres, over 200 of which were in excellent condition, all acquired through years of intelligent and unremitting labor. Mr. Bleick died in 1902, in the faith of the Lutheran Church. He was a democrat in politics, but preferred to give most of his attention to his farming interests, although he served as his sense of public duty told him in various township offices. His widow, who still survives, makes her home with her son Herman. Mr. and Mrs. Bleick had a family of eight children, as follows: Minnie, who married C. A. Gielow of Manitowoc; Charles, engaged in farming in Greenville township; Augusta, who married Gus Zuehlke of Hortonville; Herman; Lizzie, who married Ed. Wigert of Dale township; Ferdinand of Greenville township; and Ida, who is deceased.
Herman Bleick attended the public schools of Greenville township, and remained on the home farm until his marriage, at which time he removed to his present fine farm of 100 acres, which he devotes to general farming and the raising of fine live stock. He is a member of the Equitable Fraternal Union, and in politics is independent, having never aspired to office. He belongs to the Lutheran Church. On October 22, 1885, Mr. Bleick was married to Mary Schroth, who was born in Ellington township, March 23, 1860, daughter of George and Mary (Bahler) Schroth, natives of Germany. George Schroth came to the United States as a young man, and after spending six months in New York State he came to Ellington township, Outagamie county, where he bought a farm. He died in 1867, aged thirty-four years, from the effects of his army service, he having been a member of Company G, a regiment of Wisconsin Infantry. His widow, who was born November 10, 1836, died in 1903, and of their six children Mrs. Bleick was the third in order of birth. The three children of Mr. and Mrs. Bleick, all of whom reside at home, are: Lillian, born May 21, 1888; Ella, born February 16, 1891; and Leona, born July 26, 1896.

BLEICK FUNERAL Funeral services for Herman Bleick, 7,. who died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Roehrn, 1016 E. North street, were held Saturday afternoon at he Hoh Funeral home and at First English Lutheran church with the Rev. F. C. Reuter in charge. Burial was in the Greenville cemetery. Bearers were Elmer Bleick, Wal- ter Bleick, Roland Bleick, George Schultz, Robert Schroth and Wilbur Reick.

FERDINAND J. BLEICK. Among the representative self-made agriculturists of Greenville township, Outagamie county, none commands greater respect than this gentleman. He is a native of this township, born September 28, 1872, a son of John and Louisa (Brockman) Bleick, natives of Mecklenburg, Germany, where the former was born December 24, 1835, and the latter January 26, 1826. John Bleick was about fourteen years of age at the time he came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Bleick, his brother, Ludwig, and his sister Dorothy, accomplanying them. Frederick Bleick was a laboring man in Germany, and thinking that he could better his condition and that of his family he started for Milwaukee, completing a long and perilous journey when the family arrived in that city by boat from Quebec, where they had come from Hamburg. After a year spent in Milwaukee, the family moved on to Outagamie county, traveling via ox-team, and settling on section 10 on land that had been pre-empted some time before by John and Ludwig Bleick. Here the parents spent the rest of their lives. John Bleick had received an education in the schools of his native country, but had no knowledge of the English language when he first came here, but he soon acquired enough information to be able to do business among the English-speaking people of the new section, and he was also strong and industrious and worked at whatever he could find to do, splitting rails, chopping cord wood, and making numerous trips to Appleton and other points, although these trips during the early days were not without danger, as he found out when he encountered a large black bear on one of his sojourns. On another trip he carried fifty pounds of flour on his back from the village of Little Chute to his home, although in that same month the few other farmers of the vicinity were sending their ox-teams to the village for their provisions, on account of the inclemency of the weather. In 1855, John Bleick was married at Greenville, to Louisa Brockman, also a native of Germany, and they located on an eighty-acre tract in Greenville township, which was very poor property, being nearly all swamp land, but at the time of his death, in 1902, he had acquired a farm of 227 acres, over 200 of which were in a state of cultivation. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and a Democrat in politics, being elected to various offices of honor and trust. His widow, who still survives, makes her home with her son Herman, who is a representative farmer of Greenville township. The other children were: Minnie, wife of C. A. Gielow, of Manitowoc; Charles, a farmer of Greenville township; Augusta, who married Gus Zuhlke, of Hortonville; Lizzie, wife of Ed Wigert, of Dale township; Ferdinand J.; and Ida, deceased.
Ferdinand J. Bleick attended the district schools of Greenville township and also spent a year in study at Hortonville, and at the age of twenty-two years began farming a part of his father's property. He now has 100 acres in an excellent state of cultivation, devoting the land to general farming, and also doing some dairying and stock raising. He devotes all of his time to his farm, and bears the reputation of being one of the good, practical agriculturists of his section. He is a member of Greenville Lodge, No. 9033, Modern Woodmen of America, in which he is present escort, is independent in politics, and connected with the Lutheran Church. In 1895 he was married to Miss Lena Luebben, who was born in Greenville township, March 4, 1875, daughter of Gerhardt and Sophia (Dayho) Luebben, natives of Luxembourg and Mecklenburg, Germany, respectively, the former born August 18, 1826, and the latter July 27, 1836. They came to the United States at a very early day, settling in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and later coming to Outagamie county, where they bought a farm, on which Mr. Luebben died March 24, 1897. His widow remained on the farm a short time, then going to Neenah for two years, after which she again resided on the home farm for a short time and then went to Appleton, where she now lives: She and her husband had twelve children, of whom Mrs. Bleick was the tenth in order of birth. Mr. and Mrs. Bleick have had one child: John Gerhard, born May 17, 1896, residing at home.

FERDINAND BLEICK Ferdinand Bleick, 51, died Tuesday morning. Mr. Bleick was a resident of Greenville. He is survived by his widow: one son. John; one brother, Herman of Appleton: two sisters, Mrs. Gustave Zuehlke of Appleton and Mrs. Edward Wickert, of Oshkosh. The funeral will be held at 1:30 Friday afternoon from the house and at 2 o'clock at Emmanuel Luth eran church at Greenville with the Rev. Leonard Kasper in charge. Obituary:
Wayne R. Bleick, age 88, of Bonita Springs, Florida, originally of Appleton Wisconsin, passed away on September 11, 2015. He was born on May 2, 1927 in Appleton to the late Roland and Edna (Wunderlich) Bleick. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1945.
Wayne proudly served his country in the Army Air Force. He later was self-employed and co-owned Bleick Construction Co., where he was a bridge contractor for many years.
He enjoyed flying and building airplanes, boating, wood carving and was a gifted story teller. Wayne was also a member of the Appleton and Oconto Yacht Clubs.
Wayne is survived by his children; Christopher, Mary, Daniel, David (Barbara) and Jonathon. His step-son, Robert Rahr Jr. and his wife Lee. Wayne's nine grandchildren; Jasen, Matthew (Jodi), Jamye (Don), Racheal, Trevor, Brynn (Cody) and Bryce. He is further survived by nine great grandchildren, his brother, Merle (Carol) and dear friend Frankie Everett.
In addition to his parents Wayne was preceded in death by his late wives, Ellen and Susan and his sister, Bernice.
A small prayer service for family and close friends will be held at HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK, 3131 North Richmond Street, on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm.

Gus A. Zuehlke Sr., age 87, died peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2009, in Door County. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 9, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Father Dennis Ryan officiating and Monsignor John Schuh concelebrating. A visitation will be held Friday from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church on October 9, 2009. Internment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. The Zuehlke children will be hosting a casual reception for family and friends to celebrate their father's life at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, 333 West College Avenue, Appleton, Wisconsin, on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. Helen Jeanne Zuehlke will only attend the services on Friday.

Gus A. Zuehlke Sr., age 87, died peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2009, in Door County. Gus was born in Appleton on November 16, 1921, to the late Arthur Zuehlke and Alice Larpenteur. In 1942, Gus received a Bachelor of Philosophy degree from The University of Notre Dame. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and spent four years in the Pacific as a captain of an amphibious ship. Lt. Zuehlke received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement under unfriendly fire in the 1944 invasion of Saipan. On July 30, 1949, Gus was united in marriage to Helen Jeanne Ledvina. The couple enjoyed over 60 years together.
Back in Appleton, Gus earned his Commercial Pilots License in 1948. He along with John Conway founded Air Wisconsin, which became the nation's largest commuter airline. He was responsible for moving the airport to its present location. He was active with the building and financing of the Paper Valley Hotel in Downtown Appleton, the Oneida Skyline Bridge, and the East College Avenue Bridge. He founded Valley Bancorporation — a three bank holding company and over the years acquired over 160 banks and branches. He was a banker for 50 years. After he retired, Valley Bancorporation was acquired by Marshall & Ilsley Bancorporation, Milwaukee, in 1993. At the time of the acquisition, Valley had assets of $4 billion and 3,000 employees.
During his years in Appleton, Gus was very active in community affairs. He was Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of The Banking Review Board, Director of Bay-Lakes Council of Boy Scouts of America, Chairman of the fund drive to start Xavier High School, President of St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Chairman of Outagamie Hospital, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award from Rotarian International, outstanding Alumnus Award winner from the University of Notre Dame in 1963, the Walter Rugland Community Service Award in 1990, Appleton High School Outstanding Alumnus Award class of 1939. In 1986, he received an Honorary Degree from Lawrence University. Through his community service, he helped Appleton receive the award as the best place to live in the United States. Based upon his commitment to community service, Gus was inducted in to Junior Achievement's Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame.
In his retirement days, he spent winters in Sanibel, Florida, and summers in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin. In 1991, he spent 3 months as a volunteer with Helen Jeanne in Krakow, Poland, helping establish the first Polish-American bank. A biography ("Call Me Gus") was written by Kristin Stankewicz in 2007.
He is survived by his wife Helen Jeanne, Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin; two daughters: Holly Joan Brandewie, Valparaiso, Indiana; Mary Ann Mindel, Brookfield, Wisconsin; a son, Gus Arthur Zuehlke Jr., South Bend, Indiana; six grandchildren: Elena and Jacob Brandewie, Philip, David Dimitri (Dima), and Anna Maria Zuehlke, and Zachary Mindel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, Marguerite (Zuehlke) Miller, Mary Zuehlke Garvey, Arthur Zuehlke, Alice (Sis) Zuehlke Stack, and beloved nieces, Ann Garvey Maggiorana, and Mary Claire Miller Slais.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 9, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. The Zuehlke children will be hosting a casual reception for family and friends to celebrate their father's life at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, 333 West College Avenue, Appleton, Wisconsin, on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. Helen Jeanne Zuehlke will only attend the services on Friday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region (Gus A. Zuehlke Fund) or Xavier High School.

Stack, Alice Clara (Sis)
Sis Stack passed away at The Gardens of Fountain Way Assisted Living on July 4, 2009. She was 86 years old.
A lifelong resident of Appleton, Sis was born December 14, 1922, at her childhood home on Pacific Street. She was the youngest child of the late Arthur and Alice (Larpenteur,) Zuehlke. She attended St. Mary Elementary School as well as Appleton High School, (now Appleton-West). After graduating from high school, she attended Rosary College, (now Dominican University,) at River Forest, Ill., and then Mrs. Brown's Secretarial School in Milwaukee. She returned to Appleton and worked at the Appleton State Bank until meeting and marrying Richard (Dick) Stack. Dick preceded her in death on September 9, 2001.
They married in 1948. Her life centered around family, extended family and friends. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. Sis was involved in many endeavors including volunteer work for St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and King's Daughters. She also enjoyed gardening, needle pointing, playing bridge, and golfing.
She spent happy childhood and adult years at the family cottage on Lake Winnebago. She would often comment how much she loved those days.
She was a wonderful mother, and continued to supply supportive direction throughout her life. She acted with honesty and integrity. Her kindness, politeness and sense of humor were constantly noted by her caregivers who assisted her during the last years of her life.
She is survived by her children: Richard Stack and wife Barbara, Appleton; Marilyn Stack and husband Allen Rosenthal, Anchorage, Alaska; Margaret Stack, Milwaukee; James Stack, Appleton; and her four granddaughters: Kathleen, Sara, Laura Stack and Mara Rosenthal. Sis will be missed by her brother Gus Zuehlke and wife Helen Jeanne, Bailey's Harbor and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard, Sr. "Dick," her son John, her sisters Marguerite Miller and Mary Garvey, her brother Arthur Zuehlke, her nieces Anne (Garvey) Maggiorana and Mary Clair (Miller) Slais, her nephew, Daniel "Dinny" Stack.
A visitation and funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State Street, Appleton, Saturday, July 11. The visitation will start at 9 a.m.; the funeral mass begins at 11 a.m. Internment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery, Appleton on Monday, July 13 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Richard and Alice Stack Fund, Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, Inc. P.O. Box 563, Appleton, WI, 54912, or the Heckrodt Wetland Preserve, PO Box 554, Menasha, WI 54952.
The family would like to thank all the individuals who participated in Mother's care. Their companionship and care was a great source of strength for her.

Obituary:
Donna Barnum, of Appleton, age 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, with her family at her side. She was born June 28, 1936, in Appleton, the daughter of the late Albert and Leone (Bleick) Roehm. Donna graduated with the Class of 1954 from Appleton High School. She attended UW-Madison from 1954-1958 and was one of the first female cheerleaders at UW and also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Donna taught at Wausau High School from 1958-1961. On July 30, 1960, she married Charles Barnum in Appleton. She was a member and loyal volunteer at First English Lutheran Church. Donna was a member of Kings Daughters and an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. She was an owner and associate administrator from 1967-1987 at Appleton Extended Care Center. In 1993, she became the bookkeeper for Murray Photo & Video until her illness interrupted her activities. The family always looked forward to their ski trips to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Donna enjoyed knitting, traveling and the 20 years they enjoyed at Napili Kai Beach Resort in Maui. Her friends and family meant the world to her and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chuck Barnum, Appleton; three daughters: Kay (Patrick) Murray, Appleton; Ann (Steve) Moore, Denver, CO and Lynn (Matthew) Tremble, Appleton; her son, Scott (Amy) Barnum; Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren: Kyle and Kelly Murray; Collin, McKenna and Clayton Moore; Ethan, Cole and Delaney Tremble; Land, Gray, Louisa and Tatum Barnum and her sister-in-law, Sheila Roehm, England. Donna is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Delton Roehm.
The funeral service for Donna will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 E. North Street in Appleton. The Rev. George Detweiler will be officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the Wichmann Funeral Home on Friday evening from 4 - 7 p.m. and again on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First English Lutheran Church and the Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity are appreciated.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Cherry Meadows and ThedaCare at Home Hospice, especially Suzi for her excellent care and compassion.
Thank you to our dad for his devoted and loving care shown to our mom. Thank you to our mom for her never ending positive outlook on life. You have blessed our lives as a loving and gracious mother and grandmother. Now you can be in peace and let the Lord take care of you.

Our beloved brother, father, friend Johnathon James Bleick Age 53 of Appleton, passed the morning of October 31st, 2016 due to an aneurysm. Jon was born in Appleton on May 2nd, 1963, preceded by his parents Wayne, Ellen, and step mother Susan.
John was survived by his three brothers Christopher, Daniel, and David, his sister Mary, and son Trevor. Jon was married to Trevor's mother Jamie, which ended in divorce. Jon loved and was very proud of his son Trevor.
Jon obtained a Technical Degree in profusion and began working at St. Elisabeth Hospital in 1990. Furthering his education Jon graduated from Northeast Technical College in Green bay and worked as a Surgical Technician at Appleton Medical Center, The Orthopedic Outpatient Center in Appleton, and St. Vincent Hospital in Green bay in the Open Heart Surgery O.R. Jon was very proud of his career and was glad to have help so many.
Jon was a great guy to be around. His sense of humor was second to none. He made friends wherever he went. Jon loved nature and the outdoors and the adventures of camping with his family, hiking, skiing, and boating in his red Glasstron runabout. He also enjoyed music, dancing, and singing and spending time with his many friends.
Jon was fond of art. He was a very good photographer and also did stained glass and some sketching. He loved animals and enjoyed spending time with his cats and his dog.
There will be a wake held in his honor on August 21st from 3-6pm at the Camelot Bar and Grill 1700 E Wisconsin Ave, Appleton, WI 54911.
