He is survived by his wife Maureen, Surprise, AZ., his children Theodore (Wendy) Menasha, WI., MaryBeth (Dean) Williams, Washougal, WA., Thomas (Virginia) Barneveld, WI., Susan (Tim) Vanden Langenberg, New Franken, WI. Sisters and brother Betty Appleton, Kimberly, WI., Evelyn (Hank) Canterbury, Litchfield, AZ., Jim (Marge), Manitowoc, WI. Brothers and sisters in-law William (Dorothy) Ryan, Phoenix, AZ., Jack (Chris) Ryan, Cedarburg, WI. He is also survived by his grand children, the joys of his life, Zachary and Meghan Kersten, Paytyn and Baylei Williams, Trent Kersten, Maggie and Adam Vanden Langenberg.     Bob was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1953. He entered the United States Army, where he was a barber and cook, two passions he embodied his entire life. The next years were filled with raising his family and establishing his own barber shop, Captain's Korner. During this time he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Rotary, St. Mary's booster club, and served on St. Mary's Board of Education. He eventually found his fifth career as a realtor with Coldwell Banker Bytof. Bob and Reene celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last summer with their entire family.

    Joyce A. Kersten, 72, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. She was born on Jan. 5, 1938, in Neenah, daughter of the late Francis and Martha (DeGroot) Kersten. Joyce worked at Work Adjustments in Neenah for many years.
    She was also an avid bowler and was involved with Special Olympics. Joyce liked to follow sports, especially the Roncalli Jets, when her twin brother, Jim, was the coach. She lived in group homes in Menasha and Oshkosh before moving to Park View in 2007.
    Joyce will be missed by her loving sisters and brothers, Betty Appleton, Bob (Reene) Kersten, Lyn (Hank) Canterbury, Jim (Marge) Kersten; nieces and nephews, Mark (Diane) Appleton, Keith (LeAnn) Appleton, Ted (Wendy) Kersten, Mary Beth (Dean) Williams, Tom (Virginia) Kersten, Susan (Tim) Vanden Langenberg, Todd (Kristi) Canterbury, Mike (Kris) Kersten, Kathy (Mark) Pabian, David (Shawna) Kersten, Paul (Hope) Kersten; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; two aunts, Rosanne Pantuso and Pat DeGroot.
    Joyce was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bob Appleton; and a niece, Patty Appleton.
    A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second Street, Menasha, with Fr. Paul Radetski officiating. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. The entombment of ashes will take place at the Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum, Neenah.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Joyce's name to the Special Olympics, 800 W. 4th Avenue, Oshkosh, WI, 54901, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Wisconsin Chapter, 2900 Curry Lane, Suite A, Green Bay, WI, 54311.

    Kersten, Michael Robert (Mike) was born in Appleton, November 13, 1953, to Howard and Ione Kersten. Mike attended St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Menasha High School in 1973. Mike married Mary Silver in 1981, and together they had two children, a son Mik and a daughter Michelle. They divorced in 2003. In 1992, his birth daughter Jen found her dad and became a part of the family. Mike became engaged to Kathy Pease of Sheboygan in January of 2006 after a two-year commuter relationship. They were to be married next summer. Big Mike loved his family, was an excellent cook and loved to trike. He loved spending time up north at the cottage. Mike had such a joy of life and the most wonderful, booming laugh. Mike is survived by his parents, Howard and Ione Kersten of Keshena; his daughter, Jen (Jeremy) Dash of Green Bay and their daughter Jessica; his son, Mik and Mik's daughter Naomi; Mike's daughter Michelle of Sturgeon Bay; his fiancee, Kathy Pease of Menasha and her children and grandchildren of Sheboygan; and his sister, Nancy (Fred) Sahotsky of Menasha and their children, nephews Brian and Kevin. Mike is further survived by his best friends, Jerome and Janice Hartjes. Big Mike was a friend to all and will be missed by his many wonderful and caring friends. Memorial services for Mike will be Thursday, October 26, 2006, at 6 p.m. at Laemmrich Funeral Home, 312 Milwaukee St., Menasha, with Deacon Jerry Cross officiating. Visitors may call on the family from 3 p.m. until the time of service at Laemmrich Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity in the name of Big Mike Kersten.
