    Obituary:
Charlie Fischer, 59, Kaukauna, passed away after a courageous challenge with cancer, at his home on November 27, 2012. Charlie was born in Appleton, WI on October 6, 1953, the son of the late Raymond and Janet Fischer. Charlie was a graduate of Kaukauna High School, and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, earning a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. On August 9, 1975, he married his high school sweetheart, Valerie St. John, at Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna. Charlie and Val were blessed with three wonderful children.
Charlie was currently employed as Human Resources Manager, with Kobussen Buses Ltd. in Kaukauna. He thoroughly enjoyed working with the entire staff at Kobussen, and being along for the 'ride' of the tremendous growth at Kobussen. Prior to Kobussen, Charlie worked for many years at The Bank of Kaukauna, as well as a short time with Community First Credit Union in Appleton.
Charlie truly enjoyed life, and tried to make the most of it. During his challenge with cancer, 'Everyday is a Gift' became his mantra, and he tried to find the best in each day, and make that his focus. He was a member, Past Secretary, Past President and Melvin Jones Fellow of the Kaukauna Lions Club. Charlie also served on the Board of Trustees of the Kaukauna Public Library and as a Trustee of St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Kaukauna. In earlier years, Charlie also served as a Trustee for St. Aloysius Parish, and was Financial Director for the Cabin Fever Reliever and Spring Fever Frenzy Fundraising efforts, from their inception. In addition, for many years, Charlie was also a regular blood/platelet/plasma donor at the Community Blood Center.
Charlie's greatest joys were summer family vacations, and just watching his family grow, mature, and all become successful in their own way. He also enjoyed coaching/watching his children in middle-school basketball over the years. His grandchildren, Kendyll Brynn, Caiden James and Bentley Charles Brochtrup, round out the group, and Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his short time spent, watching and listening to every move they made.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Val Fischer, Kaukauna; two daughters and sons-in-law, Courtney (Craig) Peterson, Menasha and Kara (Mike) Brochtrup, Appleton; one son and daughter-in-law, Jordan (Olivia) Fischer, Kaukauna; and grandchildren, Kendyll Brynn, Caiden James and Bentley Charles Brochtrup. He is further survived by his sisters and brothers, Betty (John) Borree, Kaukauna, Mary (Mark) Steffensen, Waupaca, Margie (Ken) Reinholz, Kaukauna, Bill (Dolly) Fischer; Kaukauna, Jerry Fischer, Kaukauna, and Carole (Marty) Surman, Appleton; Val's family: her mother, Jane St. John, Kaukauna; and her brothers, Tony St. John, Kaukauna, Tom (Mary) St. John, Little Chute and Lee (Joy) St. John, Appleton. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Janet Fischer; his father-in-law, Emil St. John; his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held Friday November 30, 2012 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH - ST. ALOYSIUS CHURCH (2401 Main Ave. Kaukauna) beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of Mass at 5:00 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Pastors will officiate. Committal St. Mary Cemetery. To sign the guest book, please visit oconnellfh.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
The family would like to extend their thanks to all of the caregivers who assisted and watched over Charlie through his challenge; Dr. Joseph Graunke and staff of the Kaukauna Clinic, Dr. Kevin Mortara and Dr. Jack Swanson and staff of Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology, and Todd and Jill and the staff of ThedaCare Hospice. We will never forget all that you have done for us.
