  Mrs. James Driessen died at her home Tuesday after one months illness. Hers was a long and useful life in family circles, she having been mother of sixteen children. Mary Jansen was born at Little Chute June 24, 1848. Her parents came there from Holland in the three sailship loads brought over by Rev. Father Vanden Broek, the earliest pioneer priest of Wisconsin who settled at that place in 1835. When Father Vanden Broek arrived with his large number of immigrants, a portion of them were quartered in a sawmill which be had built with his own hands and among them were the family of John Jansen and it was in this primitive sawmill that the first baby was born, Mary Jansen, who, in 1863 married James Driessen. Surviving is her husband, five children and one brother. The children are Mrs. Gustave Lenz of Green Bay, Mrs. Katherine Lewis, and Mrs. Peter Bootz, of Little, Chute, Joseph Driessen, cashier of the bank of Marion, and Edward Driessen, electrical engineer with the Waukon Electric Co., of Waukon, Ia. The funeral will be held from Holy Cross church Friday morning at 9 o'clock. Rev. P. J. Lochmann officiating.
