  Frank's obituary appeared in t he "Appleton Post Crescent" from Appleton, Outagamie County, Wiscons in on January 15, 1940: "Frank Nienhaus, 83, 522 N. State Street, died at 8 o'clock yesterday morn ing (1/14/1940) following a week's illness. Born November 1, 1856 at Hartf ord, Nienhaus lived on a farm at Freedom until 30 years ago when he mov ed to Appleton. He was a member of St. Joseph's church and of the Holy Na me society and St. Joseph's society of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Nienhaus w ere to have celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary Saturday. Sur vivors are the widow; five daughters, Mrs. Charles Radtke, Mrs. Melvin Gro otemont, Mrs. John Haug, Jr., and Mrs. Ernest Paltzer, Appleton; Mrs. Fra nk R. Appleton, Oneida; four sons, Peter, Appleton; Ted, Little Chute; Mik e, Isaar; Frank, Jr., Escanaba, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Wenzel Heind l, Kaukauna; twenty-four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Fun eral services will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Joseph 's church, the cortege forming at the Schommer Funeral home at 8:30. A sol emn requiem high mass will be said at the church. Burial will be in the pa rish cemetary chapel. The body will be at the funeral home from this eveni ng until time of services, and prayers will be said at the funeral ho me at 8 o'clock tonight and Tuesday night."
