  Friday morning at 11:30 the bells of St. Mary's church tolled out the news of the death of an aged citizen of Mayville and soon it was generally known that Emeron Bachhuber Sr. had crossed the dark river of Death to the eternal shore beyond. For several weeks he had been suffering with heart trouble, thus his death was not entirely unexpected. But his departure leaves a great void in The Bachhuber home. His place can never be filled. He was widely known and esteemed by all who knew him. Emeron Bachhuber was born April 2, 1839 in Bayonne, Germany and at the age of seven years came to America with his parents. For five years they lived in Milwaukee and the next five at St. Lawrence. Since 1855 the Bachhubers have lived in our city, where the father of the deceased started up the first brewery, now Ziegler's. Mr. Bachhuber was married Aug. 29, 1863 to Miss Katherine Bauer by whom he is survived, as well as by the following ten children, all of whom are residents of Mayville which is remarkable: Theresa, Mrs. Albert Clark; John A.; Annie, Mrs. Anton Welsch; Barbara, Mrs. Anton Jansa; Joseph; Frank; Emeron Jr.; Miss Kathryn; Martin and Lawrence. The deceased was a competent saddler and held several offices of honor in our city. Thus he was city treasurer, Chief of the Fire department and Supervisor. He was one of the elders of St. Mary's church and he organized the local branch of Catholic Knights under whose auspices the funeral was held on Monday. The local fire department also attended in corpore. His six sons acted as pall-bearers to the church where the Rev. Father Heder conducted the service. The oldest members of the Catholic Knights then bore the remains to their last resting place in St. Nary's cemetery. May he rest in peace! Mayville News October 14, 1909
