- Magdeline M. Arts, "Maggie", 88, Kaukauna, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Sunday, October 28, 2012, at the St. Paul Home due to complications from Alzheimer's. Magdeline was born July 2, 1924, in the Town of Vandenbroek, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Diedrich) Hendricks.
She was born and raised on her family homestead of 125 years. She married Melvin W. Arts May 29, 1947 and they continued to run the farm, raise a family, and live there the rest of her life. She was a loving mother of 4 teaching them everything that she knew about life. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Church. She was an excellent seamstress and provided clothing for her family for many years. Her hobbies included crafts, gardening, cooking and baking. She enjoyed every minute with her grandkids, spending time with them playing kings corners and black jack, baking cookies, loving them, and being very proud of their accomplishments. She worked hard and played hard always enjoying spending time with family and friends, going on casino trips with Melvin, and the occasional manhattan.
Magdeline is survived by her husband, Melvin: children: Jim (Rene) Arts, Kaukauna; Richard (Kim) Arts, Kaukauna; Diana (Dean) Lamers, Combined Locks; Gene (Nancy, deceased) Arts, Colorado; 10 grandchildren: Julie (Ben) Jung; Carrie (Nate) Owen; Corey Arts; Charley Arts (deceased); Tony Arts; Casey Arts and fiancé Ashley; Leah Arts; Ben (Andrea) Arts; Tina (Jeff) Tarczon; Jamie Lamers; Robby Lamers; 5 great grandchildren: Collin, Claire and Carter Owen; Luvyanna Arts; Mia Arts; sisters: Dorthy Kerkoff (Mark, dec.), Seymour; Marion Nelessen (Robert, dec.), Kaukauna; Lillian (Leo) Gerrits, Hollandtown; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Magdeline was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Cecilia (Peter Van Zeeland, Len Van deHey); Agnes (Clarence) Schreiber; Ethel (Hilary) Feldkamp; brother-in-law Donald Arts.
Services will be held at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 PM Friday the 2nd. The mass will follow at 4:00 with Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park at 10:00 AM, Saturday the 3rd. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Magdeline's name.
