- Mary Louise Desotell, age 84, of Kaukauna, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Appleton Health Care Center with her family at her side. Mary was born on December 14, 1924, in Kaukauna, to the late August and Gabriel (Vermeulen) Merckx. She married Donald Desotell on October 1, 1949, in Kaukauna he preceded her in death on February 7, 1996. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed bingo, card playing and especially the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Dan (Sue) Desotell, Freedom; her daughter, Karen (Scott) Funk, Kaukauna; her grandchildren: Lisa (Vince) Oliver, Amy Butler, and Becky Desotell; her great-grandchildren, Brandon Desotell, Jayden Butler, Tianna and Makenna Oliver; her sister, Muggy (Eugene) Ashauer, Kaukauna; her brother, Frank (Laura) Merckx, Kaukauna, and her sister-in-law, Evelyn Merckx, McFarland, Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Merckx.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name.
