  From Mellisa Grider, Emily Benedict, sent to me via email from the Wiscon sin Veterans Museum in Madison on July 29, 1999: Henry Romansko (yup); p rivate in company C of the 34th Wisconsin Infantry, residence: Fredonia; enlisted November 26, 1862 but furnished a substitute January 12, 1863. In a book I have it said that the sub was Michael Ruppert. Listed in the unit as Henry Romonasko; UNION WISCONSIN VOLUNTEERS - 34th R egiment, Wisconsin Infantry Organized at Madison, Wis., December, 1862. Moved to Columbus, Ky., Janua ry 31-February 2, 1863. Attached to District of Columbus, Ky., 6th Divisio n, 16th Army Corps, Dept. of the Tennessee, to August, 1863. (6 Companies attached to 4th Brigade, District of Memphis, Tenn., 5th Division, 16 th Army Corps, May to August) SERVICE.-Garrison and fatigue duty at Fort Halleck, Columbus, Ky., till Au gust, 1863. Company "E" detached at Paducah, Ky., March 3; Companies "I" a nd "G" at Cairo, Ill., April 25-June 1; Companies "B," "C," "D," "F," " H" and "K" at Memphis, Tenn., May 12. Regiment united at Cairo, Ill., August 14. Moved to Wisconsin August 16 and mustered out September 8, 1863. Regiment lost during service 1 Officer and 18 Enlisted men by disease. Total 19.

  See image Henry Romenesko, Henry Romenesko for over 50 years a resident of Freedom departed this life Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 at the home of his daughte r, Mrs. Louis Verhagen with whom he had been making his home. Mr. Romenes ko has been ill for about past five weeks, the result of an abscess on h is lungs. Deceased was born in Holland June 15th, 1832 and came with h is parents to this country locating at Port Washington where he was marri ed to Miss Mary Ruppert who died 29 years ago. After the death of Mrs. Ro menesko, Mr. Romenesko moved to Freedom where eight years after he was uni ted in marriage to Mrs. VanRixel, who's death occurred three years ago. S urviving deceased are six daughters, and one son, namely; Mrs. Gerard Verh agen, Mrs. Louis Verhagen, Mrs. Theo Pennings, of Freedom Mrs. John Felle r, Mrs. Mat Weber, and Walter Romenesko all of this city. He is also survi ved by one brother, Walter Romenesko of Freedom, 45 grandchildren and 29 g reat-grandchildren. Mr. Romenesko was widely known throughout this vicini ty where he has resided for over half a century. The funeral will be he ld tomorrow morning at 9:00 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with internme nt in the parish cemetery. Six grandson's of the deceased will act as pal lbearers.
