- James E. "Jim" Mathy, age 72, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Thurs., June 26, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born March 13, 1936, in Appleton to the late Oliver J. and Norma (LeMay) Mathy. Jim started work as a truck driver for Gateway, and continued to drive truck for many years. He also worked for many years at The Post-Crescent. On September 3, 2004, Jim was united in marriage with Elizabeth "Betty" Schuh at St. John Catholic Church in Little Chute. Jim loved the Brewers and Packers, loved to play sheepshead and cribbage, and especially loved spending time with his family. He was a member at St. Paul Catholic Church in Combined Locks.
Jim will be sadly missed by his wife Betty, Kimberly; his 5 daughters: Joyce (Bob) Hackel, Sheboygan Falls; Carol (Mike) Heiting, Kansas City, MO; Jan (Floyd) Hoppa, Kaukauna; Cathy (Pat) Wurdinger, Hollandtown; and Ellen (Rob) Romenesko, Darboy; his son Paul (Lori) Schuh, Combined Locks; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Sister Paul Mathy, Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc and Jean (Bob) Greinert, Greenville; sister-in-law Nancy Mathy, Appleton; 3 nieces: Mary Grienert, Hortonville; Pat High, Appleton and Debbie Mathy, Menasha; 3 nephews: Tim Greinert, Cedarburg; Tom Greinert, Greenville and David Mathy, Menasha. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Thomas Mathy, and a son Terry Schuh.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. on Mon., June 30 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace St., Combined Locks, with Father Jim Lucas officiating. Friends may call directly at the church Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Anthony Phillips, Dr. Jack Anderson, and the staff at Theda Care at Home for the kindness, care, and concern shown to Jim during his illness.
