  Robert R. "Bob" Bernard, 97, Kaukauna, died Monday, March 1, 2004 at Parkside Care Center. Bob was born, November 1, 1906 son to the late Nicholas and Margaret (King) Bernard in Hilbert. He married the former Margaret Skalmusky on January 30, 1930 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Bob worked for Thilmany Pulp and Paper for 43 years, retiring in 1966. He belonged to the Quarter Century Club and Kaukauna Golden Agers. His hobby was raising beagle hounds and training them for hunting. Bob also was a member of the Valley Beagle Club for a number of years. He flew pigeons in races until 1988. Bob liked a good game of sheepshead, skat and cribbage. Bob also spent many hours fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Margaret Bernard; his daughter and son in law: Betty (Gerald) Nytes, Kaukauna; two grandchildren: Nancy (Dan) Meacham, Darboy and their children, Christina, Stefanie and Brianna and Lisa (Keith) Fassbender, Kaukauna and their children, Meagan, Melissa and Kyle. His parents, three sisters: Marie Beyerstedt, Lucille "Lou" Clune and Monica Bergman and a brother, Ben Bernard, preceded him in death. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday March 5, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street Kaukauna with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial is being established in Bob's name. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family. 766-2099. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute for the kindness, care and concern they gave Bob during his time there.
