  Schaefer, Mathias R. "Matt" Mathias Robert Schaefer, age 68, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009. He was born in Appleton on December 19, 1940, the son of the late Mathias Schaefer II and Lucille (Newland) Schaefer. After high school, Matt enlisted in the Army and served his country honorably in Germany. When Matt returned home, he worked for his family at Schaefer Dairy in Appleton for several years before becoming a self- employed milk distributor. On November 30, 1963, he married the love of his life, Ginny Esther. She precedes him in death. He then worked as a sales representative for Perfection Frames and Glass until his retirement in 1998. As a kid, Matt loved to spend time fishing at his family's cottage on Pelican Lake. Many years later, he and Ginny bought a cottage on Shawano Lake and spent most weekends there. Matt enjoyed playing cribbage, sheep head and poker. He was known for being a jokester and for his wonderful sense of humor. In 1985, Matt and Ginny moved to Lake Butte des Morts in Oshkosh where they enjoyed being outdoors. He was also a dedicated father and grandfather, who loved being married to his soul mate, Ginny. Matt is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Adam) Schaefer Kemps, Menasha; grandchildren: Mathias Tyler Schaefer Kemps and Hope Ginger Schaefer Kemps and sisters: Colleen Rumble and Patricia Baisch. Matt was preceded in death by his son, Mathias Schaefer and sisters: Nivard S.S.N.D., Ann Long and Sharon Rupple. A Memorial Service for Matt will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 S. Oneida Street, Menasha, with Deacon Maury Reed officiating.
