- Donald Nussbaum, age 74, of Neenah passed peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 20, after a battle with Leukemia. He was born on December 31, 1934, in the Town of Center, WI, son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Tennie) Nussbaum. On September 10, 1955, he was united in marriage to Sylvia A. Mikkelsen. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Neenah. Don was employed at American Can and retired in 1997 after 42 years of service. He enjoyed spending leisure time at "the cottage" with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife, Sylvia; children: Donald V. (Barb) Nussbaum, Neenah; Richard (Emily) Nussbaum, Menasha; Daniel (Jackie) Nussbaum, Appleton; Sheri (Jeff) Kroll, Neenah; former daughter-in-law Natalie Lear, Kenosha; nine grandchildren: Andrew (special friend Jessica) Nussbaum; Katie Nussbaum; Adriana Lear (special friend Phil); Anthony Nussbaum; Bailey Nussbaum; Alex Nussbaum; Mitchell Nussbaum; Jonathan Kroll; Samuel Kroll; great grandson: Landen; four sisters: Mildred (Arden) Mattice and Adeline (Ralph) Ulman, both of Appleton; Rosemary (Vernon) Friebel, Kimberly and Joan (Tom) Gasser, Colorado Springs, Colorado; a sister-in-law Mae Maciejewski, Menasha.
He was preceded in death by: an infant son, Joseph David; parents: Frank and Dorothy Nussbaum; father- and mother-in-law: Harvey and Beulah (Winch) Mikkelsen; brothers-in-law: Hugh and Glen Mikkelsen and Richard Maciejewski.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Fr. Richard Allen officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being established in his name for St. Joseph Food Pantry and Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Center.
The Nussbaum family would like to thank all the medical personnel who have helped him through his difficult health issues.
