- Betty J. Hoelzel, age 92 of Menasha, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016. She was born in Hortonville on February 9, 1923, the daughter of the late William and Abbie (Dunn) Scherer. On October 18, 1941, she married the love of her life, Reuben Hoelzel. Together they shared 69 wonderful years.
Betty worked for many years and retired from the Newborn Nursery at Theda Clark. She also held office at the local, regional, and state levels of the Eagles club many different times, and participated in various charities throughout her Presidencies. She enjoyed spending time with her family and playing games like shuffleboard with Reuben, sheep head and dartball. She also liked to play bingo and slot machines. She also adored spending time with her grandchildren, having won Grandmother of the Year, and was known to welcome anyone into the family.
Betty is survived by her children: Beverly (special friend Gerald Nett) Meyers; Wayne Hoelzel; Linda R. Kersten; Barbara (Dennis) Clow; Michael (Bonnie) and daughter-in-law, Sharon Hoelzel; her grandchildren: Deb (Tom) Galinsky; Scott (Leann) Hoelzel; Deborah (Robert) Lee; James G. (Denise) Meyers; Steven Meyers; Kevin (Lisa) Flowers; Michelle Flowers; Brian (Linda) Hoelzel; David Hoelzel; Stacy (Kelly) Braatz; Otilia (Bob) Scanlon; and Lenny Hoehne. She is further blessed with 22 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; her son, Tom Hoelzel; grandson, Loren Jape; great-grandchild, Tyler Hoelzel; sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at NOON, Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 320 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha, Fr. Jim Hablewitz and Pastoral Associate Mary Krueger officiating. A visitation will take place Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Menasha's Westgor Funeral Home, and again at church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Betty's name.
