- Arlene Hiestand, 5003 Ridge Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at her home. She was 88 years old, born November 14, 1921, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ervin and Elsie (Broehm) Lopas. In 1942, Arlene married Warren Hiestand in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Warren was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force. They were married 58 years when Warren passed away October, 2000. She lived most of her life in Kaukauna, until retiring in Las Vegas. Arlene was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a devoted homemaker. She worked at Kaukauna Club Cheese Factory and also in food service at Kaukauna Public Schools. Arlene enjoyed playing cards with friends and having family gatherings, where she lovingly contributed delicious homemade food, spirited stories, fun and memorable good times. She was a generous and kind woman who loved her family and spent her life thinking of and helping others.
Arlene is survived by her children: Thomas (Anna Marie) Hiestand, Fargo, North Dakota; Susan Hiestand (Jack Goodnow), Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth (Tyler) Treat, Thaddeus (LuAnn) Hiestand, LeeAnna (Craig) Kalscheur, Peter (Erika) Hiestand, Christopher, William and Eleanor Goodnow, and 12 great-grandchildren: Emily, Joseph, Katy, Ellen, Coltra, Max, Cam and Dominik Hiestand, Walter, Lucy and Sam Treat, and Gabe Kalscheur. Arlene is survived by sisters: LaVerne Lopas, Houston, Texas, Leola (Phil) Ferber, Las Vegas, Nevada; and sister-in-law, Jan Lopas, Kaukauna.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Bert Lopas, and a great-grandson, Matthew Hiestand.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at BETHANY EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 124 W. 10th Street, Kaukauna, the Rev. Walter Steinbach officiating. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton, Wisconsin. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, December 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday directly at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials directed to Bethany Church would be appreciated.
