- Janice C. Lopas, 81, Kaukauna, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 10, 1930, in De Pere, Wis., to the late Henry and Alice (Dietzler) Verber. Janice graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Green Bay in 1948. On Aug. 23, 1952, she married Gerald "Bert" Lopas in Kaukauna. The couple lived in Kaukauna and enjoyed 55 years of marriage together prior to his death in 2008. Janice waitressed for many years at Tony Wonders Supper Club in Little Chute and Chef Bills Supper Club in Appleton. She also bartended at Wippich's Skyview Supper Club. Following Bert's retirement they traveled throughout the United States by motorcycle. Jan also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and visiting with family and friends. She will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Ellen) Lopas, Stevens Point; twodaughters, Catherine (Joseph) Kurth, Manitowoc; and Cindy "Cid" (Neal) Borchert, Kaukauna; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, and Kate Lopas, Brianna Kurth (fiance, Josh Trainer), Jacob and Seth Kornely, Darren Borchert (fiancee, Amber Kinsley), Carrie (Casey) Meyer; great grandchildren, Caleb Kurth, Misty Borchert with baby sister on the way; one sister-in-law, Eunice Verber, De Pere. She is further survived by her husband's sister, Leola Ferber, Las Vegas, Nev.; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; a brother, Ronald; and a nephew, Michael Verber.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at St. Katharine Drexel Parish at St. Mary Church, 119 West 7th St., Kaukauna, with Fr. Jerry Pastors officiating. Friends may call directly at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, all memorials received will be donated towards Breast Cancer. Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family.
