- Shirley A. Hietpas, 76, Appleton, passed away at ThedaCare Hospice Residence, Appleton, on Friday, April 22, 2011, after a courageous three-year battle with ALS. Shirley was born on November 12, 1934, in Kaukauna, to the late Leonard and Martha (Welhouse) McCabe. She married Omar Hietpas on July 14, 1954, in Appleton.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and was also well-known for the love of her dogs. She was employed for many years as an Administrative Assistant at the Bargain Bulletin.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Omar; her children, Deborah Hietpas, Appleton; Thomas (Sally) Hietpas, Appleton; and Linda (John) Roberts, Appleton; her grandchildren, Abby Theisen, Appleton; Eric Theisen, Appleton; Ryan (Krista) Hietpas, Clinton, Mass.; Ross Hietpas (special friend, Jenna Roberts), Appleton; Kyle Roberts (special friend, Nicolette Smith), Appleton; and Cole Roberts (special friend, Tara Van Stippen), Appleton; her sisters, Patricia (Michael) Milton, Appleton; and Joyce Wenzel, Appleton; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Fabian Arnoldussen, Irene Roffers, Alice (Leo) Nackers, Lois (Clayton) Liebergen, Sister Germaine Hietpas, Ken (Irene) Hietpas, Merlin (Rose) Hietpas; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Iris Arnoldussen; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cornelius and Anna (Conrad) Hietpas; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Wenzel, Paul (Margaret) Hietpas, Elaine Van Dera, Roger (Pat) Hietpas, Eugene (Susan) Hietpas and Norbert Roffers; and her nephews, Daniel Milton and Patrick Milton.
The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton, with Fr. Bob Lexa officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the MDA/ALS Clinic of Green Bay and the ThedaCare Hospice Residence staff for their loving care.
