  Michael R. Merkes, age 55 of Black Wolf, passed away on Wednesday May 6, 2009. Mike was preceded in death by his father Joseph (Sam). He will be sadly missed by his wife of 24 years, Cherie, children: Michelle and Geoffrey; his mother Evelyn; sisters Pat Merkes, Kay Theisen and Maggie Heerkins; and his cousin Joe, who was like a brother to him. He is further survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers in law, and close friends. He was an ordinary person who was extraordinary and will be sadly missed. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Remembrance Service will be held at St. Francis Cabrini School (formerly St. Mary's School), 619 Merritt Avenue, Oshkosh, WI, in the Activities Room on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 2 p.m. His family encourages friends and family to share stories about him during that time. Sr. Diane Bauknecht will officiate the service and program, with a buffet dinner immediately following. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to Fr. Carr's Place 2B or St. Francis Cabrini School. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who searched and showed concern with your calls, cards and prayers during this tragic time.
