  Gus RISTAU, dealer in automatic pianos has become an expert in handling the electrical mechanism, which plays them, and has just become part own er in newly patented music roll cutting machine which it is stated is going to revolutionize the production of music rolls, for automatic pianos a nd other musical instruments of the character. The machine attached to a piano being played by hand will duplicate any piece of music into a roll while the pianist is rendering it at the rate of thirty feet a minute, producing two rolls at once or sixty feet of roll. His new invention is own ed by H. C. KIBBEY & co., the well known dealers and manufacturers of auto matic musical instruments and machines and Mr. RISTAU, is a wonder-worki ng little instrument, as with it the dealer or music manufacturer can prod uce a thousand rolls, in a short time to order the only requisite bei ng to have a person who is capable of playing the piano, thus obviating t he necessity of his carrying in stock so much music as formerly." Gus W. RISTAU, a progressive and enterprising business man of Kaukauna, Wi sconsin, who is dealing in real estate and automatic pianos, is a nati ve of the state of New York, birth occurring February 12, 1872, and a' s on of Gottleib and Minnie (Zimmerman) Ristau, both of whom were nativ es of Germnany. Gottlieb Ristau was married (first) to Amelia Korth, who d ied in Germany in 1867, and he then took for a wife Minnie Zinmmerman. Th ey came to the United States in 1871, locating in New York, and later we nt to Minnesota, where Mr. Ristau settled on a. homestead. In 1874 the fam ily came to Wisconsin, and here Mr. Ristau secured employment on the gover nment dam in the Fox River at this point, and during that year he died. H is widow subsequently married William Falkenberg and removed to Iowa, a nd there the early education of Gus W. Ristau was received. He came to Kau kauna in 1890 and for several years worked in the paper mills, later engag ing for five years in the brewing business. He then opened and operated t he Hotel Ristau with his brother, but sold out to the latter in 1905. Sin ce that time he has been engaged in the real estate business, also handli ng automatic pianos, covering territory from Fond du. Lac to northern Wisc onsin and Michigan under the firm name of G. W. Ristau Land Company, and e mploying a number of salesmen. The company owns a great deal of desirab le farming land in the vicinity of Riblake, Taylor county, and also do es a large business in 'other sections. In 1901 Mr. Ristau was united in m arriage with Miss Millie Zittlow of Wrightstown, Wisconsin, and they ha ve had four children: Mildred, Alfred, Harold and Arnold. The farmily is c onnected with the Lutheran Church, and in politics Mr. Ristau is of Republ ican views. He is one of' Outagamie county's successful, self-made men, a nd enjoys the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens.
