- By the death of Mrs. Fanny Louise Griem, aged 79 years and 9 months, which occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1906, New Holstein loses one of its highly respected pioneer settlers. Fanny Hintze was born in Ahrensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on October 21, 1826. She was married to Wm H Griem March 11, 1851, at Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein. The following June they emigrated to America settling in New Holstein, this county, on the place on which she resided at the time of her death. Her husbvand, who was a prominent official of the town for over a quarter of a century, died August 2, 1899, since which time she has made her home with one of her sons. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom survive her, five sons, Jas, G., Fred, John of New Holstein, W. L., of this city (Chilton), Ernst of Milwaukee, and two daughters, Mrs. C. Jens and Mrs. M. Stecker, of New Holstein. She also leaves besides her immediate family, thirty-three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was a woman of excellent character and one of the prominent New Holstein woman of early days, she and her husband being widely known throughout that town and county.
Her hospitality and good works are still remembered by the older settlers of the town, and neighbors and friends all deplore her death. The funeral will be held this Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at New Holstein. Her son, ex-sheriff W L Griem and family of this city, left for New Holstein to attend the funeral.
