- Chilton – William L. Griem, 85, former Calumet county sheriff and county treasurer, passed away early this morning at his home in Chilton. The deceased was born Jan. 3, 1861 and on Dec. 13, 1884, was united in marriage with Miss Anna Herberg at New Holstein. The couple made their home in New Holstein until 1900, when Mr. Griem was elected to the office of Calumet County sheriff and moved to Chilton. He served two terms in that capacity.
Later, Mr. Griem was appointed sales representative for the Standard Oil company at Chilton, continued his affiliation with the oil firm for 10 years until he resigned to become a candidate for the office of county treasurer. He retired 15 years ago after completing 10 years as treasurer.
Since that time the deceased remained active in his hobby— the making of wooden toys for children and numerous articles of furniture. He was a charter member of the Turn Verein, associated with the organization since its founding 60 years ago.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. E. T. (Marianna) Rathert, and Mrs. Otto (Rose) Bechlem; one son, George, and four grandchildren, all of Chilton and one brother, John E., of New Holstein. His wife preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1933.
