- Joann Mary Stephens, age 62, of Appleton, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Cherry Meadows after a battle with cancer. She was born April 24, 1955 in Kaukauna, the daughter of Robert and Betty (Verfurth) Niesen.
Joann was most recently employed as the Quality Manager at Surface Mounty Technology. Prior to her work there, she spent 20 years with the Plexus Corporation. A proud veteran, Joann also served in the US Air Force. Joann graduated from Kaukauna High School before obtaining a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Joann enjoyed spending time with her family, her Red Hat Group and any activity with water. She could be found daily either in her pool and hot tub or attending water aerobics classes. Joann's favorite vacation spot was Maui and she enjoyed many trips there with friends.
She is survived by two sons Robert (Nicole May) Stephens, Jr. and John (Dana) Stephens, and three beautiful grandchildren: Sidney May and Mya and Brett Stephens. She is also survived by her siblings Bob (Diana) Niesen, Bill (Donna) Niesen, Patricia Niesen, Margaret Niesen and Sue (Dave) Popp as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a loving and devoted dog, Bella. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John and Donald Niesen.
A memorial service and celebration of Joann's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 14, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday October 14, from 10 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
