  Sprangers, Joan C. (Mrs. Leo) Joan C. Sprangers, age 85, of Appleton, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Colony Oaks Care Center after a two year battle with Alzheimer's. Joan was born in Appleton on November 26, 1924, to the late Joseph and Clara (Last) Schaefer. On September 2, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leo A. Sprangers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton. The couple enjoyed 62 years together. She worked as a cook for many years at Colony Oaks Care Center and also at Lawrence College. Joan had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories and sharing jokes. She also enjoyed knitting, golf, craft sales, the Packers, and playing cards - especially solitaire and sheepshead. She could always be depended on to pray for someone in need, all you had to do was call. Her religion meant a lot to her and she was a long standing member at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Leo Sprangers, Appleton; four daughters: Mary (Duane) Dunsirn, Waupaca; Jean (Tim) Pontow, Appleton; Barb (Lee) Brockman, Appleton; and Lori (Dean) Knutson, Appleton; two sons: Michael Sprangers, Waupaca; and Robin (Melissa) Sprangers, Menasha; daughter-in-law, Susan Sprangers, Menasha; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gerald (Dolores) Schaefer, Appleton; and Joseph (Vivian) Schaefer, Kimberly; two sisters: Rita (Cal) Oldham, Rhinelander; and Rosann (Maynard) Romenesko, Combined Locks. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Mark, and a grandson Justin. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 12, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr., Appleton, with the Rev. Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The last two years of mom's illness has brought our family very close. We enjoyed all the visits talking with her and all the residents at Colony Oaks.
