- Tech. Fifth Grade Eugene Heindel, Depot Street, Kaukauna has received the Purple Heart award. He was wounded in France on July 8. Eugene entered service in September, 1942, and went overseas in February, 1944. He had been in the front lines for the last three months.

- Heindel, Gene A., Kaukauna.Age 82, passed away June 19, 2003 at the home of his son in Blacksburg, Vi rginia, where he and Lorraine had resided since May of this year. He was b orn September 18, 1920 in Kaukauna, son of the late Martin and Helen (Onke ls) Heindel. On February 2, 1942 he married the former Lorraine Huven at H oly Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Gene was employed by Thilmany Pu lp and Paper in Kaukauna for forty-three years as a laboratory technicia n. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and saw action in the E uropean Theatre. He was proud to have received the Purple Heart and the Br onze Star. He enjoyed reading and photographing beautiful sunsets.He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years: Lorraine; four sons: Mike ( Rosa) Heindel of Las Vegas; Al (Rita) Heindel of Hurst, Texas; Gary (Ros e) Heindel of Kaukauna; Dr. Don (Connie) Heindel of Blacksburg, Virgini a; a daughter: Annie (Chris) Collins of Waukesha; ten grandchildren: Li sa Bellard, Terry (Tom) Burns, Brian Heindel, Keri Heindel, Kim (Caroly n) Heindel, Adam (Cindy) Heindel, Alina and Koan Heindel, Galen and Erin C ollins; six great-grandchildren: Skylor and Matthew Heindel, Jordan and Ba iley Burns, McKennah Bellard, and Alyssa Heindel. Gene is also surviv ed by a brother: Jim (Mary) Heindel of Beaver Dam; two brothers-in-law: Jo hn (Dorothy) Huven of Green Bay and Gerard (Marion) Wilde of Peshtigo; a s ister-in-law: Rita Huven of Green Bay. Gene was preceded in death by his p arents, a brother Ray (Martha) Heindel, and brothers-in-law Jerry (Adelin e) Huven and Cy Huven.The funeral liturgy for Gene will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 2 4, 2003 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna wi th Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemeter y. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until t he hour of the service. FARGO FUNERAL HOME 400 W.
