Cadet Melvin M. Courtney, 25 of Kaukauna, was killed in an airplane crash Sunday evening 6 miles north of Garden Army Air Field, Garden City, Kansas, where he was stationed. Cadet Courtney, in service since January of last year, would have been commissioned and received his wings and a few weeks.
