  Johnson, Walter H.Walter H. Johnson, age 82, formerly of Neenah, WI, passed away on March 1 6, 2004 in the company of loving family members at the VA hospital in A nn Arbor, MI. Walter was born June 5, 1921 in Gulliver, MI to John and Hil ma (Ostlund) Johnson. Walter served in the Army during World War II as a c ombat infantryman in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe whe re he was decorated and cited with the EAME Theater Ribbon with three bron ze stars, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart, a nd Victory Medal. He earned badges for Combat Infantryman and Rifle Marksm an.Walter married LaVerne (Siebers) Harvey on November 10, 1951 and adopted h er two daughters, Lynn Harvey (Robert Little), Apex, N.C., and Barbara (Ke n) Mentz, Appleton, WI. He worked in Appleton, WI at the Fox River Boil er Works until returning to Gulliver in 1969. Rollie and Helen Bennett a re just a few of his many generous friends and family in the area who look ed after him while he resided in Gulliver, MI until the fall of 2002. F or over a year, he has enjoyed the company of his family: Brian, Scott, No rman, Caroline, and Kathryn Johnson in Belleville, MI. Walter was an accom plished woodsman and naturalist. He had a deep love of nature and childr en and shared his knowledge and skills with his many admirers, of all age s. He had a wonderful sense of fun and humor and gave the gift of laught er freely. He had a special talent for storytelling that we all enjoye d. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.Walter is survived by his daughters; and grandchildren: Steven Mentz, Wate rloo, IL; and Randy Mentz, Platteville, WI; and many nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Hilma Johnson; his wi fe and son, LaVerne and Steven Johnson; his sisters: Hazel Bergman, Hel en Burill, Ann Marose; his brothers: Henry, Edwin, and Norman Johnson.Funeral services will be held at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Man istique, MI, Saturday, March 20, 2004, with visitation from 1-3 p.m. and s ervices at 3 p.m. Reverend Donna Lindberg of the First United Methodist Ch urch presiding.
