- Matt Blindauer died early Sunday morning at the Sisters Hospital Missoula, where he had been for the past six weeks. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. The remains were shipped to Stevensville yesterday morning, interment being made in the Catholic cemetery beside his wife who died in 1888. The services were conducted by Father Paladino.
Mr. Blindauer was born near Green Bay, Wis., just 40 years ago. He came west at the time of the construction of the Northern Pacific railway and in the capacity of lineman helped to string the Western Union telegraph line from Saint Paul to Seattle. Later he married and located at Grantsdale, where he established a hotel, afterwards moving to Riverside where his wife died. He built the second business house in Hamilton and was engaged in the saloon business here until the time of his death. He amassed considerable property, consisting chiefly of real estate in Hamilton and mining claims in the Mineral Hill district. His estate is valued from $10,000 to $25,000, which he bequeathed by will to his son.
He leaves a son, 17 years of age, who is attending college in Wisconsin; and three brothers, Val Blindauer, proprietor of the Headquarters saloon in Missoula, and Nicholas C. and Peter Blindauer of this city.
