- DeGroot, John H., "J.D." "Jac k" 505 Black Street KaukaunaAge 88, died unexpectedly, Thursday evening, January 8, 2004. He was bo rn December 1, 1915, to the late John and Martina (VanDera) DeGroot, in Co mbined Locks and had been brought up in Minnesota. Jack served with t he U. S. Army during WWII, in the European Theatre, where he received t he Bronze Star. Following his marriage to Mary Ann Brunner, December 1, 19 45, they moved to Kaukauna. J.D. was employed by Mertens Transportation Co mpany for thirty years, retiring in 1979. He enjoyed listening to the Brew ers games on his radio and playing sheepshead at 4:00 pm, daily, at Schout en Oil. John was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Kaukauna E lectric City VFW Post #3319.Survivors include his special friend, Catherine "Florence" Weber and her f amily; his four sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Barbara DeGroot, Ka ukauna; Lloyd and Patricia DeGroot, Kaukauna; Duane and Kay DeGroot, Kimbe rly; Robert "Bones" and Mary De-Groot, Menasha; two daughters and sons-in- law: Sandy and Gary Resch, Menasha; Shirley Kruezer, Milwaukee; 18 grandch ildren: Dawn (Randy) Paltzer, Alan (special friend, Stacy) DeGroot, Jennif er (special friend, Troy) DeGroot, Eric (special friend, Amy) DeGroot, Rob ert (Kerry) Van Nuland, Mark Van Nuland, Tracy Resch, James and Julie DeGr oot, Jillian, Allison, Caitlin, Andrew and Jacob DeGroot, Crystle (speci al friend, Darryl) DeGroot, John De-Groot, Neeka and Reegan Cheslock; sev en great-grandchildren; seven brothers and five sisters-in-law: Francis a nd Eunice De-Groot, Kaukauna; Bill and Iva DeGroot, Spokane, WA; Tony a nd Marilyn DeGroot, Lakeville, MN; Myron and Ollie DeGroot, Fairbault, M N; Arthur DeGroot, Fairbault, MN; Leo DeGroot, Texas; Fred "Fritz" and P am DeGroot, St. Joseph, MO; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Agnes a nd Ray Web, Fairbault, MN; Elizabeth and Bernard Sneva, St. Paul, MN; Rose lla Wallace, New Mexico; and a special friend, Vernon Nabbefeldt, Seymou r. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann (Brunner) De-Groot, in 19 89; two grandsons, Gary Resch, Jr, Jason DeGroot; a sister, Martha (Leonar d) Gillis; a son-in-law, Tom Kruezer; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy DeGro ot and Phyllis DeGroot; a brother-in-law, Donald Wallace.The funeral liturgy for John will be held at 4:30 pm, Monday, January 1 2, 2004, at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 209 Desnoyer Street, with Father J ack Mullarkey officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Frien ds may call at the church from 2:30 pm Monday until the time of the mas s.
