- Jerome C. Hawley, age, 82, found peace at home among family at his bedside, on Monday, May 25, 2009. He was born on October 15, 1926, son of the late, Raymond and Johanna (Peters) Hawley. Jerome was a medic in the Pacific Theatre (Japan) during WWII. He received a Journeyman Tinsmith degree from Fox Valley Technical College and then was employed with James River Paper Company where he worked until his retirement in 1985. Jerome enjoyed spending time with his family and was always willing to help build or repair anything possible. He loved to go to the casino and found the quarter machines with the handles to be his favorite. Jerome also found much enjoyment working on different projects up north. On May 28, 1949, Jerome married Romilda Mainz in Charlesburg, WI.
He is survived by his wife; Romilda of nearly 60 years, three children; Debra (Gary) Pontow, Appleton; Jane (Craig) Johnson, Darboy; and Mark (Bonnie) Hawley, Appleton. Jerome is further survived by six grandchildren: Luke (Christy) Hawley, Appleton; Laura (fiance, Paul Witt) Hawley, Clintonville; Caitlin (fiance, Ben Van Den Wyngaard) Abel, Darboy; Phillip and Mark Pontow, Appleton; and Tony Abel, Darboy; a great-grandson, Carter Hawley, Clintonville: and a sister; Mildred (Robert) Gerrits.
He was preceded in death by a sister; Gladys, a godson, Robert "Bobbie" Gerrits and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Valley Funeral Home, visitation will continue at the church on Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of mass.
