- Herbert L Kersten, 60, a former Chilton alderman and former member of the fire department there, died at his home on Lincoln Ave.,in Chilton at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. He had been in ill health for the past two months.
Mr. Kersten was born in Chilton on February 27, 1894, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kersten. He attended St. Marys parochial school and later St. Norberts academy at DePere.
For 40 years Mr. Kersten serviced as a mechanic in various garages at Chilton. He was alderman of the Second Ward for several years and a member of the fire department for many years. Mr. Kersten was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council at Chilton and also was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Holy Name Society of St. Marys Church.
Surviving Mr. Kersten are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Clayton Miller of Chilton; two sisters, Mrs. William Schabach of Chilton and Miss Marie Kersten of Appleton, and six grandchildren. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Pfeffer Funeral home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Marys Church in Chilton.
The Rev. Theodore Kersten of Stockbridge, a cousin of the deceased, will be celebrant of the requiem high mass. Assisting him will be Rev. Joseph Bartelme pastor of St. Marys Church, and the Rev. Benedict Marx, curate.
Burial will be at St. Marys Cemetery.
