  Paul A. Kersten "Cuddy" 124 E. Elm St. Combined Locks Age 79, died Friday, August 25, 2000, at Appleton Medical Center following a short illness. He was born April 19, 1921, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Cornelius and Anna (Wimberger) Kersten. On May 18, 1946, Paul married the former Rosemary Weyenberg at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks. The couple resided in Combined Locks their entire married lives. Paul was a World War II Army Veteran and had achieved the status of TEC 5. He was employed at Appleton Papers- Combined Locks for 43 years, retiring in 1984. He also helped his son-in-law farm after retirement. Paul had served as assistant fire chief of the Combined Locks Fire Department and fire chief of the Appleton Papers Mill. Paul loved golf and had a great sense of humor. He loved his family and grand and great- grandchildren. Paul was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks, Jacob Coppus Post 258 of the American Legion-Little Chute and the VFW Post 10544- Combined Locks. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary, Combined Locks; two daughters and two sons-in- law, Janice (Robert) Schroeder, Appleton; Gail (Joe) Jackels, Kaukauna; six grandchildren, Stefanie (Eric) Herb, Tricia (Vincent) Salvia, Troy Jackels, Tonia (Ben) Van Wychen, Craig and Joe Jackels; seven great- grandchildren. Paul is further survived by four brothers and five sisters-in-law, Gene (Mary) Kersten, Appleton; William (Germaine) Kersten, Tilleda; Francis Kersten, Kaukauna; James (Delores) Kersten, Appleton; Melva Kersten, Arizona; Rita Kersten, Menasha; five sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Baier, Milwaukee; Elaine Peotter, Margaret Collins, Lois (Ed) Scharenbroch, Wilma Kersten, all of Kaukauna; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Richard; a sister and brother-in-law, Marion (Joe) Van Cuyk. Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks, with Fr. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Jacob Coppus Post 258/VFW Post 10544 immediately following services at the church. Friends may call directly at the church from 2 p.m. Monday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name. Boettcher Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Appleton Medical Center and Fr. Norm Krutzik and Fr.
