  My memories of Grandpa Nabbefeldt are few, but as close as yesterday. We spent many Sunday afternoons in Freedom with Grandpa and Grandma. They lived down the road from the St. Nicholas Catholic Church and next to Grandpas's cheese factory. I remember they had an outhouse and a big garden. Lots of strawberry patches. Grandpa always took us kids on a tour of his garden, he was so proud of it. I never saw Grandpa without his pipe. He was a quiet man, had beautiful eyes and loved to rock in his rocking chair. I remember when he died, the coffin was in the dining room and I thought the people would never stop coming through the door. I have been told by Virgil, Uncle Cliff's son, that Grandpa worked as a carpenter in Milwaukee, building churches and large buildings. Later he had the cheese factory in Freedom which had a grist and feed mill attached to it, which he also ran. He lost everything in a fire. He also was the Post Master in Freedom.
